Job summary
Are you keen to work at a world renowned Trust? We're on the lookout for a Highly Specialised Physiotherapist to join our vibrant team of 60 professionals, which includes 13 advanced physiotherapy practitioners and 3 consultant physiotherapists.

You'll play a pivotal role in outpatient musculoskeletal service all while serving our diverse local community.

We have a 1 year fixed term post available at 0.6 WTE.

In this role, you'll gain invaluable experience managing referrals from GPs and Consultants across orthopaedics, rheumatology, neurosurgery, hands, and women's health, whilst actively participating in our outpatient clinics.

Here's what you can expect:

• Conducting specialised musculoskeletal assessments and devising comprehensive treatment plans.
• Guiding and mentoring qualified physiotherapists, students, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Engaging in evidence-based projects, departmental research, and quality audits.
• Acting as a physiotherapy team leader in operational management.

Our services are spread across three main sites: St George's Hospital in Tooting, St John's Therapy Centre in Clapham Junction, and Queen Mary's Hospital in Roehampton, with additional outreach into the community. You will be based at St George's Hospital in Tooting.

Main duties of the job
Patient Care

• Undertake the highly specialist assessment of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with highly complex presentations.
• Manage a diverse caseload of patients presenting with a range of musculoskeletal conditions, reflecting the local demographic of Wandsworth.
• Signpost or refer patients to other services or teams as indicated.
• Supervise and support rotational Band 6 physiotherapists, pre-registration physiotherapy students, and work experience students.

Service Delivery

• Deliver physiotherapy services at St George's Hospital Tooting, St John's Therapy Centre Clapham Junction, and Queen Mary's Hospital Roehampton, with outreach into the community.

Professional Development

• Engage in regular in-service training programs covering a variety of topics to develop into a well-rounded clinician.
• Participate in clinical supervision and joint clinics led by an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner.
• Contribute to departmental service improvement projects and research initiatives.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential

• Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy
• HPC registration
• Evidence of CPD in musculoskeletal physiotherapy in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio

Desirable

• Formal management training
• MSc in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
• Post registration MSc in musculoskeletal physiotherapy or evidence of working at equivalent level.
• Postgraduate education/courses in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.
• Relevant special interest group membership.

Experience
Essential

• Significant post registration experience in out-patient musculoskeletal physiotherapy at Band 6 level (or equivalent level) to include Consultant referrals, GP referrals, Rheumatology, Orthopaedic In-patients, persistent Pain Management
• Experience of delivering physiotherapy in, one-to-one, Classes, or group formats.
• Experience of delivering care within NHS clinical pathways including primary and secondary care systems
• Experience of performance management for physiotherapists and students
• Good understanding of education theory with experience of comprehensive supervision and able to deliver teaching to the department and MDT as required

Desirable

• Experience of: Hydrotherapy, Women's Health, Hands and Plastics, A&E
• Experience with spreadsheets/data collection
• Experience of organising and chairing meetings
• Experience of operational team management

Skills and knowledge
Essential

• Fluent in written and oral English, with the ability to communicate complex/contentious information in a clear and logical manner to a range of audiences e.g. service users, carers, other professionals, stakeholders
• Advanced clinical reasoning skills in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
• Ability to keep legible and accurate notes in English in the POMR system
• Good teaching, supervisory & appraisal skills
• Good working knowledge of all areas of Clinical Governance Including quality, audit and risk management.
• Understands the legal responsibilities of the profession
• Proven organisational skills including prioritisation and delegation
• Ability to lead and motivate others within the team
• Advanced report writing skills
• Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety to meet the differing needs of patients
• Ability to be self-motivated
