Rotational Specialist DietitianJob summaryWe have a vacancy for a 1.0 WTE Band 6 Dietitian. This post is part of a 9 month rotation scheme in the following 4 areas: Acute Medicine and Senior Health, Acute Stroke, Inpatient Neuro Rehabilitation, Senior Health Rehabilitation and General Adult Outpatients.
The role requires strong nutrition support skills, especially in enteral feeding. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is enthusiastic and dynamic with excellent communication skills and acute inpatient experience.
Main duties of the job- Practice autonomously, providing high quality clinical practice in specialist area.
- Be proactive in clinical decision making underpinned by an enhanced level of theoretical and practical knowledge.
- Use enhanced clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge of service users in specialist area.
- Undertake specialist holistic nutritional assessments including the calculation of nutritional requirements on the interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry, clinical condition and other physical parameters in those with complex needs.
- To be experienced in the use of anthropometric equipment for assessment of nutritional status, such as bioelectrical impedance, callipers and hand grip dynamometer and interpretation of results.
- To develop a suitable dietetic treatment plan based on evidence based practice and provide advanced nutritional advice to service users, in collaboration with their carers, where needs are complex. This involves the interpretation and communication of complex and sensitive information in an understandable form.
About usThe wider dietetic department consists of over 70 dietitians, who provide clinical inpatient, outpatient and community services to a variety of specialties including cardiology, critical care, diabetes, gastro, haematology, HIV, infectious diseases, major trauma, neurology/neuro surgery, oncology, paediatrics, renal and surgical diseases.
The department is committed to training dietetic students and actively participates in the training programs of clinical and non-clinical staff. There are numerous opportunities for professional, audit/research and career development.
