Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a committed, highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Occupational Therapist, to join our established Band 6 OT neurosciences and neurorehabilitation rotation.

This post offers the opportunity to develop your clinical skills in several specialist multi-disciplinary teams with the aim of providing high quality, efficient and effective OT to a wide range of neuro patients. You will be responsible for the supervision of OT staff and Therapy Technicians. As well as having a key role in promoting evidence-based practice and service development. We are an innovative Neuro OT workforce who are passionate about the specialist services we provide offering opportunities for skilled development.

The Band 6 Neuro OT rotation includes the following areas:
  • Neurology
  • Neuro cardiac including CTICU
  • Neuro trauma
  • Neurosurgery including NICU
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
  • Hyper acute and Acute stroke services
  • Level 1 and Level 2 neurorehabilitation including the inpatient FND service.

Essential candidate criteria
All applicants must have experience of working with an adult client group in neurological rehabilitation. You need to be a confident autonomous practitioner with competent communication skills, a flexible problem-solving approach, good clinical reasoning skills, and be efficient in your time and people management.

Main duties of the job
This role forms part of the band 6 neuro OT rotation. Rotations are usually 9 months long but this depends on service need.

Clinical:
The post holder is required to provide specialist clinical assessment, treatment and advice to support the management of a complex neurological caseload. Interventions include specialist cognitive and perceptual assessment; tone and spasticity assessment and management (including casting and splinting), specialist seating and complex discharge & rehabilitation planning. Early OT interventions often focus on reducing secondary complications associated with acute admissions (e.g. early mobilisation - reducing risk of chest infections; early tone assessment and management - reducing risk of contractures and long-term need for spasticity management).

Leadership/workforce management:
The post holder is responsible for the daily management of their clinical caseload including prioritisation and allocation to junior and/or support staff. The clinical effectiveness of the service is monitored through recognised performance service metrics (SNNAP/ NHS-E / UKROC data set and local Therapies Scorecard Activity data.)

The post holder also contributes to the delivery of the neurosciences 7-day therapy services and assists the Trust in meeting their objectives around patient flow and outstanding care every time.
