Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a child and adolescent consultant psychiatrist to become involved in transformation and leadership within a forward looking CAMHS service. We are keen to shape the post to fit the needs of the right applicant and to support them in developing their interests within our broad portfolio of services.

Durham Tees Valley Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services work with children and young people up to the age of 18 across Getting Help, Getting More help and neurodevelopmental assessment teams. Generic teams are closely linked with LD CAMHS, Eating Disorders and Forensic CAMHS. The out of hours activity is supported by dedicated CAMHS crisis team, which operates on 24/7 basis and provides extended crisis input as well as home treatment options as an alternative to hospital admissions.

The Stockton CAMHs Getting More Help Team is based at Viscount House, Falcon Court. Stockton on Tees. The premises are within a business park and is easily located just off the A66 with easy access to both the A19 and the A1.

The Borough of Stockton-on-Tees is home to197,348 people, of which almost 25% are aged 0 - 19 years.

The post holder will have responsibility for the assessment and management of mental and/or behavioural needs of children and young people presenting with mental disorder and requiring assessment for neurodevelopmental needs.

There are opportunities to become a GMC registered trainer e.g. clinical and / or educational supervisor.

Main duties of the job
The post holder is expected to offer mental health assessment, psychiatric opinions, diagnosis and holistic care plans for patients up to the age of 18, referred to them in hours and when on call.

Direct patient contact would include new patients to service, new psychiatric assessments and review appointments. Main conditions would be expected to include: ADHD, ASD, Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, Eating Disorders, Tic Disorders, Psychosis, Self-harm, Conduct Disorder and Sleep disorders.

The Children and Young Peoples Service uses the Care Programme Approach (CPA) and has a relevant all-age Trust policy. The majority of young patients are managed on Standard Care.

Clinical work would be expected to be carried out predominantly within the clinical base at The Ridings in Redcar (or the new site after moving) but may occur within other settings.

The post holder will be required to be Section 12 approved, preferably with Approved Clinician status. The Trust would support the post holder to secure these approvals if not already in place when appointed.

The post holder should write reports for and attend relevant multiagency meetings for young people on their caseload.

The post holder will be expected to follow the Trusts person-centred pathways of care.

The post holder will be expected to complete a minimum of 8 hours clinical supervision per year.

Qualifications
Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or within 6 months of gaining CCT
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

Desirable
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
  • MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
