Scarborough is a town on the north coast of Yorkshire, England with a population of just over 67.000 people (2019 census). Scarborough is the largest holiday resort on the Yorkshire coast.
This post has arisen due to increased financial provision into the area.
The post covers the provision of medical leadership to the Outer area of the Scarborough Community Mental Health Team (SICT). The division between outer and central sections is purely for medical cover purposes and follows an equitable division of local GP surgeries. The community team continues to operate as one community team. The job is split into 3 sessions of supporting professional activities (SPA) and 7 sessions of direct clinical care (DCC).
The post is based at The Ellis Centre, 18 Dean Road, Scarborough which is a unit to house the facilities to support the delivery of community care to adults. The community team receives an average of 100 - 120 referrals per calendar month with only a small proportion requiring assessments by the psychiatric team.
The community team works under the principles of purposeful and productive care delivery involving collaborative work. The post holder, as a member of the leadership cell, is expected to provide medical leadership to the Outer section of the community team and enhance the quality of care interventions.
Main duties of the jobThe appointed consultant will be expected to provide key medical leadership to the Community Mental Health Outer Team in Scarborough. The post holder is not expected to hold a care coordination role but may be expected to be the clinical lead for a specific cohort of patients stabilised on Clozapine and Lithium treatments (estimated caseload of 20-30 patients).
The post holder will have an average of 8 patients on CTO/MOJ. They will not have a case load of their own but will work with other members of the multidisciplinary team, to ensure patient safety and appropriate care is delivered.
The post-holders core clinical duties will involve formulation, review and leadership meetings, MHAct related work, and involvement in complex care planning meetings. Based on Royal College recommendations, Outpatient work will comprise 3,5 PAs; Clinical Admin 1 PA; MDT work 1 PA; Emergencies 1 PA and MHA work 0,5 PAs. Management of patients on CTO, including assessments/reviews and attending tribunals and panels as appropriate.
The post-holder will be expected to provide clinical supervision to a resident doctor and expected to provide clinical placements for Medical Undergraduates from Hull York Medical School.

- Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
Desirable- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
