Job summary
Salaried GP Position of a standard 4 to 6 sessions per week, with scope for possible extra sessions depending on demand.

An exciting vacancy has arisen at The Beeches Medical Practice Shrewsbury for a GP to join our friendly team working at least 4 sessions per week.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dynamic, professional and friendly GP to join our practice to contribute to our patient focused team.

The post holder should work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care.

The post holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

About us
The Beeches Medical Practice is a friendly 4 Partner Practice. We are situated on the south side of Shrewsbury providing medical care for approximately 7,200 people. The practice covers a wide area from Bayston Hill to Leebotwood in the north - south direction and Acton Burnell to Pulverbatch in the east - west direction.

We have two surgeries, Bayston Hill and Dorrington. Dorrington being our dispensing surgery.

We are an efficient and friendly team of 4 GP partners, 1 ANP, 2 Practice Nurses, a HCA/Phlebotomist, a Practice Manager, Operations Manager, Dispensary Manager, Care Coordinator, and a team of 11 Medical administrators, Dispensers and Receptionists.

We are a training practice, and clinicians and staff are very involved in ensuring the trainees gain full experience of all aspects of life in general practice. We look after Medical Students from Keele University and GP Registrars for various timescales.

We use EMIS Web clinical system along with Anima and GP Teamnet.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities:
  • In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients.
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
  • Providing counselling and health education.
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collecting data for audit purposes and complying with QOF requirements.
  • Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other Responsibilities within the Organisation:
  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.

They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately. In the performance of the duties outlined in this Job Description, the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, Practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the Practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Fully qualified GP with GMC registration
  • Evidence of annual appraisal and revalidation
  • General practice (Vocational Training Scheme) trained
  • Certification of Completion of Training
  • Inclusion on Performers list

Experience
Essential
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and with own initiative
  • Committed to quality and patient satisfaction

Desirable
  • Experience of working in primary care
  • Other relevant qualifications/special interests
  • Development of areas of clinical expertise
  • Committed to working as part of a multi-disciplinary/multi-agency primary care team
