Main duties of the job
The SACT clinical educator role will include maintaining strategies for the induction, education and continuing professional development of staff on: - ORTC day unit, outreach peripheral sites, christie@sites and the christie@home service.

The post holder will work clinically with staff ensuring they are educated and supported in the specialist knowledge and skills required for the department.

They will ensure that the highest standards are shared throughout the various sites we cover and that Standard Operating Procedures and Trust policies are adhered to.

The post holder will ensure the continued compliance for staff of internal education days and deliver education by using the best standards of care as a benchmark.

It is expected that you will play an active role in the delivery of SACT training and education including the UKONS Passport, this is alongside the training and assessment of any clinical skills required for the role.

The post holder will be required to work autonomously and exercise a high level of clinical expertise, have excellent interpersonal skills and knowledge of cancer malignancies and SACT protocols.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic nurse who displays initiative, flexibility and possesses excellent communication skills.

Working within a supportive environment, alongside the SACT clinical education team, developing excellent skills and knowledge in the relevant specialised area.

Job responsibilities
Organisation is key in this role as no two days are the same, and you must be adaptable as your plans may need to change quickly. The role requires you to work off site on occasion to support our peripheral sites, so a car is advised.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Working with the Senior SACT Clinical Educator, the post holder will be closely involved clinically with the development of all grades of staff including pre and post registration students.
• Work with the Senior SACT Clinical Educator to identify strategies for practice development.
• Focus on staff support and health and wellbeing promotion.
• Promote and incorporate research/evidence-based practice within the clinical setting.
• Facilitate awareness of professional and educational development by acting as a resource person.
• Act as an effective role model.
• Develop competency-based practice, supported by other specialist roles and subject matter experts.
• Liaise with the Christie clinical institute for cancer education and outside educational organisations to help support the learning and development strategy.
• Working with the Senior SACT Clinical Educator to establish a system for the implementation of practice change/improvement following action planning in response to incidents.
• Support the staff in practice, facilitating reflective practice and providing day-to-day clinical support.
• To be a clinical expert.
• To ensure the provision of excellent, compassionate evidence-based nursing care for the patients and their families.
• Ensure all nursing practice is within the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct.
• Develop and maintain competence in agreed basic and advanced clinical skills.
• Provide expert advice on appropriate aspects of acute oncology to others where appropriate.
• Work to develop and support best practice in all aspects of SACT delivery.
• To manage time appropriately to achieve aims and objectives of the department, directorate, division, and Trust services plans, in conjunction with the Senior SACT Clinical Educator & Matron.
• Maintain up-to-date records of statutory training updates for all staff and manage the training compliance for the department, keeping the database updated.
• To feedback regularly and consistently to the Senior SACT Clinical Educator.

• Support with audit and quality assurance across the ward area.
• Lead on the development and implementation of grade specific teaching programs. This will include teaching and delivering presentations.
• Offer support and guidance to staff in relation to individual continuing education/professional needs.
• Responsible for acquiring/ensuring access to resources to support learning.
• Maintain own up-to-date knowledge base.
• Develop a system of feeding back learning from study days in a structured manner.
• Be responsible for developing research-based practice and supporting staff to ensure that their practice is evidence-based.
• In conjunction with the Senior SACT Clinical Educator undertake audit of education and clinical practice annually and as required following changes to practice development for projects.
• Ensure there is a robust system in place for sharing learning.
