Job summary
Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Acute) Fixed-Term Post We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly and supportive Adult Acute Team. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development of a specialist service for patients admitted to our acute wards. As a senior clinician within the team, you will provide specialist assessment, management and advice for adults presenting with communication and swallowing difficulties. You will play a key role in supporting patients, their families and carers, helping them to understand and manage communication and dysphagia challenges within the acute hospital environment. This post is ideally suited to an established Band 6 therapist looking to further develop their specialist clinical skills and contribute to service development within a rewarding acute care setting.

Main Duties of the Role
You will manage a varied specialist caseload of adults with communication and swallowing difficulties, including patients living with dementia. Alongside direct clinical work, you will have dedicated opportunities to provide education, training and support to ward staff and families, helping to improve the care and experience of patients across the Trust.

Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will demonstrate: Experience working within an adult acute setting. Competence in the assessment and management of dysphagia. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work effectively and flexibly within a busy environment. A strong commitment to multidisciplinary team working. Working alongside experienced SLT colleagues and the wider MDT, you will have access to specialist support, regular supervision and opportunities to further develop advanced clinical skills. The role involves delivering a high-quality Speech and Language Therapy service to adults within acute care, including specialist assessment, treatment and management of communication and swallowing disorders, planning rehabilitation programmes, supporting discharge planning and providing expert advice to patients, families and healthcare professionals.

To provide an effective and efficient speech and language therapy service to adults in an Acute setting. You will manage a specialist adult caseload in this clinical area. Duties will include providing a specialist level of clinical expertise in the assessment, treatment and management of adults with swallowing and/or communication difficulties, planning therapy programmes and discharge of patients.
