Consultant in Stroke MedicineThe closing date is 09 August 2026Job SummaryThis post is partially a replacement but also a new post, created in response to the increasing demand for Stroke services provision both in hospital and the community. The successful candidate will work closely with the two existing Stroke Physicians.
The Hillingdon Hospital provides Acute Stroke service for the people of Hillingdon, Hayes, Harlington, Ruislip and part of Ealing. Our designated 24 bedded Acute Stroke Unit offers intense stroke rehabilitation for patients referred by our local HASUs (NWLH & CXH). The team includes 1 x SpR from geriatric rotation, 1x CT1/2, 1x FY2 rotating every four months as well as a Trust Grade SHO. The team includes Neuro-physiotherapists, Neuro-occupational Therapists, SALT, Dietician and psychology input. There is a dedicated Stroke Clinic every week and daily TIA clinics. There is a Stroke specialist nurse at Hillingdon hospital, who supports the Stroke/TIA clinics.
We have 2 dedicated MRI slots for our outpatients. We were awarded a Gold star for our TIA Services for two consecutive years.
There are weekly neuro-radiology meetings, on Mondays with one of the Imperial College Neuro-radiologists. There is also a neuro-vascular MDT with Northwick Park hospital every Friday. In addition, a monthly cardiology MDT takes place for PFO cases.
Stroke inpatient MDT meeting happens weekly on Wednesdays.
Main Duties of the JobThe post-holder will be responsible to the Divisional Director of Unplanned Care at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is a minimum of 10 PA including 7.5 PA DCC and 2.5 SPA. SPA includes clinical and educational supervision, audit, personal CPD and mandatory training. Personal CPD must be included as part of annual appraisal which is mandatory and required for the revalidation process.
The post holder will, together with his or her consultant colleagues and other health care professionals in the Directorate, provide an effective and comprehensive service on the Stroke unit and the outpatient Stroke clinics. The post holder will work closely with colleagues to support quality improvement and service development in the department.

Person SpecificationEssential- Full GMC Registration with License to Practice
- MRCP or equivalent
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Geriatrics or within six months of the expected date of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in both Geriatrics and General Internal Medicine OR Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register
Desirable- Higher degree eg MD, PhD
- Attended management training course
- Attended leadership training course
