Job summary
We are looking for a Healthcare Assistant who shares our professional values and behaviours and has the energy, skills and enthusiasm to contribute to making Middlewood the place to be for world class care, helping our population to live well. As a healthcare assistant you will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. You will work under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurses and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.

Main duties of the job

• New patient health checks
• Phlebotomy
• Wound Care Management
• Ear care
• Diabetic foot checks
• Vaccine administration
• Smoking Cessation
• Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs or nurses
• Cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment where required
• Vaccine and cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
• Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation
• Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
• Chaperoning duties
• Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations where required
• Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
• Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
• Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
• Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
• Know the general principles of first aid and resuscitation to be able to undertake initial actions as appropriate
• Be aware of statutory child health procedures and statutory local guidance and referral criteria

Person Specification
Qualifications

• Essential: HCA Care Certificate or Equivalent Experience
• Essential: Appropriate Qualifications/Diplomas/Certificates for any declared special interests
• Essential: A demonstrable commitment to development

Experience

• Essential: Experience within a health care setting
• Essential: Experience of dealing with the public/patients
• Desirable: Experience in Primary Care
• Desirable: Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients
• Desirable: Confident with IT
• Desirable: Experience of using EMIS web

Knowledge and Skills

• Essential: Competent in duties required for the post, including ECG, NHS Health Check, Vaccinations, Diabetic Foot checks, BP check/ BP monitoring, Height/weight monitoring, New patient health checks, Wound Care Management, Community based referrals and health promotion strategies and working with patients with long term condition such as diabetes.
