Job summaryThe Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist to provide clinical and professional leadership within Neuro Oncology, with a specialist focus on the Awake Craniotomy pathway. This senior role offers the opportunity to lead and shape a highly specialised neuropsychology service, supporting adults with brain tumours and epilepsy across the full surgical pathway--from pre-operative assessment and preparation, through intra-operative cognitive monitoring, to post-operative rehabilitation and outcome evaluation. The post holder will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and evidence-based care in a complex, high-risk neurosurgical context, while contributing to service development, governance, and strategic planning. We are looking for an individual with extensive post-qualification experience in neuropsychology within neurological or neurosurgical settings, who brings advanced expertise in complex assessment and intervention, alongside strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will be confident operating autonomously at consultant level, committed to maintaining high clinical standards, and motivated to drive innovation, workforce development and service improvement within a dynamic and evolving specialty.
Main duties of the job- Provide consultant-level clinical leadership for Neuro Oncology neuropsychology services
- Lead and oversee neuropsychological input into the Awake Craniotomy pathway
- Deliver expert consultation on complex cases involving cognition, capacity, communication and risk
- Develop and implement clinical pathways, protocols and competency frameworks
- Ensure services meet governance, safety and quality standards
- Line manage and supervise senior neuropsychology staff, supporting workforce development
- Lead audit, evaluation and outcome monitoring to inform service improvement
- Contribute to strategic planning, business cases and service development
- Work collaboratively with neurosurgery, oncology and multidisciplinary teams
- Support education, training and dissemination of specialist expertise

Job responsibilities- To ensure a high quality, comprehensive specialist clinical psychology service within the Paediatric Psychology Service.
- Ensures the strategic development of the service in collaboration with colleagues in Newcastle.
- Provides a highly specialised and experienced clinical psychology service for patients with the most complex/challenging presentations.
- To propose and implement policy and service development for the psychological input to the paediatric services.
- To provide professional leadership and management. Ensuring systematic governance of the service ensuring that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional supervision of the Psychology section.
- As a major requirement of the job to be responsible for the performance management of all psychological research and development activity within the Paediatric Psychology Service including audit, policy and service development and research programmes.

- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialist areas of psychological practice with evidence of considerable experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist in Health Services specifically within child health services
- Up to date HCPC Registration
DesirableKnowledge & ExperienceEssential- Has significant previous experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist including significant post qualification experience within paediatrics
- Has considerable experience of caseload/workload management and supervision of others
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, inpatient and residential care settings including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the treatment of physical abuse
- Considerable experience of the assessment, treatment and management of care for the most complex and challenging clinical presentations
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan
- Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision
- Experience of representing the profession in local policy/management fora
- Experience of professional management qualified and pre-qualified clinical psychologists
- Experience of waiting list management and service prioritisation
- Formal training in supervision of other psychologists
- Has evidence of learning and development in relation to leadership/management
- Has knowledge of good practice in recruitment and retention
Desirable- Experience of multi-professional management of teams or services within the designated specialty
- Experience of the application of psychology in different cultural contexts
- Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of highly specialised psychological therapies
- Experience of working within a multicultural framework
- Has a track record of professional management of qualified and pre-qualified clinical psychologists
