Job summaryAn opportunity has arisen for a Consultant to join our Ophthalmology team with a subspecialist interest in urgent care pathways desirable.
We ensure that close collaboration of all the consultants takes place with regular fortnightly team meetings and there is a close working relationship with the managers of the service.
We work in a friendly team atmosphere with a diverse population in North West Norfolk.
Main duties of the jobProvide high-quality ophthalmology services across outpatient, surgical, and emergency care settings, delivering safe and effective patient-centred care. Assess, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with a broad range of ophthalmic conditions in accordance with national and local clinical guidelines. Undertake outpatient clinics, theatre sessions, and other programmed activities as agreed within the job plan. Participate fully in the departmental consultant rota, including on-call, emergency, and urgent ophthalmology services as required. Contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality ophthalmology pathways to ensure timely access to treatment and excellent clinical outcomes.

QualificationsEssential- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- FRCOphth/FRCS or equivalent completed
Desirable- MD, PhD or evidence of further training and experience in Ophthalmology
Entry CriteriaEssential- Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) at time of interview
ExperienceEssential- A wide range of clinical skills and practice in the specialty, cataract and glaucoma management.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the emergency care of patients, both paediatrics and adults.
- Experience at fellowship level.
- Experience in phacoemulsification, Including experience In providing training In phacoemulsification
Desirable- Experience and interest in the management of Surgical Glaucoma.
