Registered Midwives Band 5 & Band 6. We are looking for compassionate, enthusiastic and committed Registered Midwives to join our friendly and supportive Maternity Team at Band 5 and Band 6 level.

We welcome applications from newly qualified midwives, experienced Band 5 midwives and established Band 6 midwives who are passionate about providing safe, personalised and evidence-based care to women, birthing people, babies and their families. Band 5 Midwives will provide high-quality care across the maternity pathway, working collaboratively with women and the multidisciplinary team. Full support will be provided to develop clinical skills, confidence and professional practice.

Band 6 Midwives will provide and coordinate high-quality care while demonstrating clinical leadership, supporting junior colleagues and students, and contributing to education, quality improvement and service development. We are looking for midwives who demonstrate excellent communication, teamwork, clinical judgement and a commitment to safeguarding, professional development and compassionate care.

Main duties of the job
Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide holistic, individualised care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods, considering physical, psychological, social, cultural and emotional needs.
• Assess, monitor and evaluate maternal and fetal wellbeing, developing and reviewing appropriate care plans and interventions.
• Promote informed choice and shared decision-making through clear, accurate and evidence-based information.
• Recognise and respond promptly to changes or deterioration in maternal or fetal condition, escalating concerns appropriately.
• Provide safe care during normal labour and birth within professional competence and seek appropriate support when required.
• Deliver high-quality postnatal care, including assessment of maternal recovery, emotional wellbeing, newborn health and infant feeding.
• Undertake newborn observations and assessments within scope of practice and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Administer medicines safely in accordance with prescriptions, professional standards and local policies.
• Maintain accurate, timely and confidential clinical records and ensure effective communication with the multidisciplinary team.
• Provide sensitive care to women and families experiencing complications, pregnancy loss, stillbirth, neonatal death or bereavement.
• Recognise and appropriately escalate safeguarding concerns.
• Promote equality, diversity, dignity, privacy and respect in all aspects of care.

Person Specification
Knowledge
Essential

• Must be capable of carrying out physical activities required for the job.
• Be competent in all screening procedures.
• Be competent in recognising high risk pregnancies.
• Have an appreciation of lifelong learning.
• Understanding of Clinical Governance.

Desirable

• Understands Risk Management and Complaints procedures
• Up to date with the NHS Agenda, national directives and all Governance aspects.

Qualifications
Essential

• Completed a programme of Midwifery education integrating theoretical and clinical practice
• Educated to Diploma/Degree level
• Maintains eligibility to notify intention to practice annually

Desirable

• May have evidence of on going Preceptorship programme or equivalent
• Evidence of Continuing Professional development
• Documented evidence of continued appropriate studies.

Experience
Desirable

• To meet Band 5 competencies
• May have previous experience at Band 5
