Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Band 6 Senior Physiotherapist to join the Inpatient Therapy Team at The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. In this rewarding role, you will provide specialist assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for patients with a wide range of acute and complex conditions, supporting recovery, independence and safe discharge from hospital. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will manage a diverse caseload, apply advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice, and contribute to high-quality, patient-centred care. You will play a key role in coordinating treatment plans, communicating with patients, carers and healthcare professionals, and ensuring positive outcomes for those with complex health needs.

As a senior member of the team, you will provide clinical leadership through the supervision, mentoring and development of junior staff, support workers and students. You will also contribute to service improvement, audit, quality assurance and the implementation of best practice in line with national guidance and Trust objectives.

We are seeking a HCPC-registered physiotherapist with significant acute inpatient experience, excellent communication and organisational skills, and a commitment to continuous professional development. Main duties of the job
As a Senior Physiotherapist within the Inpatient Therapy Team, you will provide specialist assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for patients with acute and complex conditions, using evidence-based practice to promote recovery, independence and safe discharge from hospital. You will manage and prioritise a varied caseload, develop treatment and discharge plans, undertake risk assessments, and work closely with patients, carers and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.

You will support the leadership and development of the service through the supervision, mentoring and training of junior therapists, therapy support workers and students, ensuring clinical practice meets professional and Trust standards. You will contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement and service development through participation in audit, evaluation and the implementation of evidence-based practice.

The role requires effective communication with patients, families and healthcare professionals, including providing specialist advice, contributing to multidisciplinary meetings and supporting complex discharge planning. You will maintain accurate clinical records, collect and report service data, and ensure compliance with professional, legal and organisational requirements.

You will also maintain your own professional development, contribute to continuous service improvement and to weekend and bank holiday cover as required.

Person Specification
Knowledge
Essential
  • Evidence of clinical expertise and knowledge related to acute inpatients to Post graduate Diploma level or equivalent developed through CPD and experience
  • Knowledge and experience of using standardised assessments and development of relevant outcome measures
  • Demonstrates knowledge of equipment available and able to assess and fit where applicable (Including walking aids)
  • Knowledge and understanding of national legislation, guidance and regulatory framework including NSF, NICE, Information Governance, Equality and Diversity, Data Protection, Safe Guarding, Professional and Clinical Guidelines
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and implications for patient care
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety in the work environment and implications for service area
  • Awareness and understanding of relevant health and Social Care legislation

Desirable
  • Knowledge and evidence of participation in clinical audit and evidence gathering methods
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement through benchmarking and sharing and utilising best practice

Qualifications
Essential
  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Current HCPC Registration
  • Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently between TRFT sites and for patient visits in the Rotherham area and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Desirable
  • Post-graduate qualifications relevant to management of acute in-patients.
  • Membership of The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Completed recognised IT course e.g. ECDL/Elite/MOST

Communication and Relationships
Essential
  • Able to present and receive information within a multi professional team.
  • Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients/clients,relative/carers and staff.
  • Demonstrate effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Skills and ability to motivate and support others
  • Ability to adapt skills to ensure effective communication at all levels
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills

Experience
Essential
  • Clinical experience of working within acute in-patients
  • Experience of management of resources
  • Experience of working within a multi-professional team

Desirable
  • Experience of user/carer participation and engagement in review/development of services
  • Evidence of development and supervision of staff and students
