Job summary
The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has an established Solid Tumour Cellular therapy unit including a functional tumour-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) therapy pathwayled by Dr Andrew Furness.The Solid Tumour Cellular Therapy team comprises a Consultant Medical Oncologist acting as Solid Tumour Cell Therapy Lead, Cell Therapy Clinical Fellow, Cell Therapy Operations Manager, Melanoma Clinical Nurse Specialists, Cell Therapy Clinical Nurse Specialists, Melanoma Research Nurses and Biological Specimens Co-ordinators.This central team and acts in collaboration with the Cell Therapy laboratory, Regulatory Compliance team, Surgical Team/Theatres, Inpatient team (Wiltshaw ward), Haematology team and Critical care to plan the entire pathway from procurement of starting materials through to delivery of cell-based therapy.

Main duties of the job
This is a new position for a Consultant Medical Oncologist in Solid Tumour Cellular Therapy (pan tumour) and Sarcoma with an interest in translational immuno-oncology and immune monitoring at The Royal Marsden. The post is part-funded by the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. The post-holder will be expected to provide leadership of the emerging RM cellular therapy group and to lead the development of cellular therapy infrastructure, systems and platforms across both the RM Chelsea and Sutton campuses. Additionally, the post-holder will be expected to support the development of translational research in immuno-oncology across tumour units based on the extensive RM trials portfolio in immunotherapy. A key responsibility of the post will be to disseminate best practice and knowledge of cellular therapies throughout the tumour groups at the Royal Marsden and to facilitate collaborative interdisciplinary working between the multiple teams required for the safe delivery of cellular therapies. It is expected that the post will evolve in such a way that the post holder will be required to take on additional responsibilities as the field of cellular therapies advances and flexibility in the post holder is therefore vital.

Status
Essential
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent qualification
  • CCT in medical oncology or equivalent (or within 6 months of CCT at date of interview
  • Eligible for full GMC Registration
  • Commitment to revalidation
  • Higher Degree (MD, PHD or equivalent)

Experience
Essential
  • Appropriate clinical experience in the sites of interest (sarcomas)
  • Experience in translational laboratory research
  • Demonstrated interest in laboratory research in the field of immunotherapy or immunology
  • Leading on design, set up and conduct of clinical and translational research protocols
  • Proven publication track record in high impact peer reviewed journals

Desirable
  • Track record in securing grant funding either peer reviewed or through industry partnership
  • Experience in developing research collaborative groups
  • Experience of working across institutions
