Job summary
We are recruiting Procedure Coder and Data Quality Co-ordinator to help ensure private patient activity is recorded, coded and validated accurately. The post holder will review clinical information, apply ICD-10, OPCS and CCSD coding standards, resolve documentation queries and work with clinical, operational and finance colleagues to support accurate, timely billing. Also, investigate data quality issues and help improve coding processes.

Main duties of the job
Procedure Coder and Data Quality Co-ordinator will have clinical coding experience, including private healthcare coding and liaison with insurers, and be confident interpreting complex clinical records. Strong attention to detail, communication and Excel skills are essential. We welcome applicants who can show how their skills and experience meet person specification.

Job responsibilities
Strategic Direction
Support the development and promotion of the Trust's mission, values, aims and objectives. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication across the Division, the wider Trust, and with external stakeholders including clinicians, patients, insurers and embassies.

Operational Performance Management
Ensure all Private Care activity is coded, mapped and validated accurately in accordance with CCSD schedules, coding standards, insurer requirements and sponsor contracts. Extract clinical information from a range of sources including operation notes, endoscopy reports, interventional radiology reports, histopathology results and consultant guidance.

Financial and Resource Management
Support the accurate charging of Private Care procedures, diagnostics and consumables through robust coding and data quality processes. Work closely with Commercial Finance and billing teams to ensure invoices are raised accurately and within agreed timescales.

Personal
Maintain professional knowledge and expertise in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, CCSD coding standards and developments affecting Private Care services. Undertake training and continuing professional development to maintain and enhance coding knowledge and skills.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
Essential

• Academic achievements to 'A' level or equivalent
• Clinical Coding Standards Course
• Degree and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent

Desirable

• Track record of continuous professional and management development

Experience
Essential

• Experience reviewing complex clinical information, resolving coding queries and identifying documentation gaps that affect coding accuracy.
• Experience in clinical coding across ICD10, OPCS & CCSD classifications with the ability to analyse and translate patient record information in accordance with the rules and conventions of clinical coding.
• Awareness of data quality issues in healthcare settings
• Experience of working in private healthcare coding, liaising with insurance companies

Desirable

• Experience using validation, audit or reporting outputs to identify trends, themes and improvement opportunities.

Knowledge
Essential

• Keyboard skills and computer literacy (including knowledge of MS office packages)
• Knowledge of and competence in the use of spreadsheets, including ability to manipulate data. Proficiency in MS Excel, e.g. skilled in using pivot tables and lookups level required
• Expert knowledge of medical terminology anatomical and physiological terms acquired through work-based training

Desirable

• Knowledge in interpreting complex oncology surgical procedures with application of coding rules and conventions as specified in the ICD10, OPCS & CCSD manuals
