Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will make an important contribution to realising the strategic vision of the Royal Marsden School (RMS), which is to enhance the care of people affected by cancer by inspiring, challenging, and developing innovative health professionals through excellent, research-informed education.
As an experienced Advanced Clinical Practitioner, you will bring credible, contemporary clinical expertise into the academic environment, helping to bridge the interface between clinical practice and education. Joining a team of highly qualified Senior Lecturer/Lecturer Practitioners, you will work closely with Programme Leads to design, deliver, and evaluate high-quality post-registration and postgraduate provision, including the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice, short bespoke courses, and study days, delivered both face-to-face and through virtual learning platforms.

Job responsibilitiesEducation - Be responsible for high quality teaching and the facilitation of student learning, using an innovative and reflective approach to education. This includes:- 2.1 Designing and delivering specific teaching sessions and study days both in the classroom and through e-learning using a range of appropriate teaching strategies to suit the level of learners, the setting, and the topic, including technology-enhanced and experiential learning, one-to-one coaching, large and small group teaching, seminars and simulation of clinical situations
- 2.2 Participating in the development of teaching in the RMS, sharing and reflecting on ideas and experiences; mentoring colleagues; evaluating teaching activity and outcomes
- 2.3 Participating in Peer Review of teaching, receiving, and giving supportive feedback and advice to help sustain and enhance the quality of teaching in the RMS.
- 2.4 Being involved in the evaluation of teaching and learning activities, ensuring that education and practice are linked
- 2.5 If qualified, provide academic leadership and support to course / curriculum development and delivery
Person SpecificationEducation/QualificationsEssential- Registered Health Care Professional.
- Advanced Clinical Practice qualifications (physical assessment and independent prescribing)
- MSc /MA in an appropriate subject (or working towards)
Desirable- Fellow of the HEA
- PhD (or working towards)
- Post-graduate teaching qualification (preferably also recognised by professional body)
- Cancer qualification
ExperienceEssential- Experience of clinical leadership role during career
- Demonstrable post registration experience in a relevant clinical setting
Desirable- Experience of teaching in Higher Education or Clinical Practice setting
- Experience of acute oncology
- Advanced Communication skills training
- Experience of research and scholarship activity/project management related to education and/or cancer care
KnowledgeEssential- Knowledge/experience of teaching in a variety of settings
- Knowledge of research methods and processes
- Current knowledge of health/education policies/standards
Desirable- Current knowledge of care of individuals with cancer including from: surgery, SACT, haemoncology, specific cancer diagnostic groups: breast; gynaecology; lung cancer.
Skills/AbilitiesEssential- Ability to deliver innovate and creative educational activities
- Excellent communication skills - able to influence and communicate with people at all levels
- Highly developed problem-solving and change management skills.
- Sound administrative/organisational skills
- Computer literate using Outlook, Word, and Power Point
Desirable- Knowledge of health care leadership and change management

- Knowledge of clinical assessment and decision making
- Knowledge of technological approaches for online teaching and learning
