We are seeking an exceptional Head of Safeguarding and Vulnerabilities to join our senior nursing leadership team. This is a pivotal role for a dedicated and influential leader who is passionate about safeguarding, patient safety and improving outcomes for some of our most vulnerable patients.

Reporting directly to theChief Nurse (Director of Safeguarding and Vulnerabilities), you will provide strategic leadership, expert professional advice and organisational assurance across the Trust's safeguarding and vulnerability agenda. You will be a credible visible leader, trusted advisor and champion for safeguarding excellence, ensuring we meet our statutory responsibilities while driving continuous improvement across all services.

Main duties of the job
As the Trust's senior professional safeguarding adviser, you will lead and develop a comprehensive safeguarding and vulnerabilities portfolio, including:

• Safeguarding Children and Adults
• Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
• Dementia Care
• Learning Disability and Autism
• Transition Services
• Domestic Abuse
• Modern Slavery
• PREVENT
• Persons in Positions of Trust (PiPoT)
• Public Protection and Vulnerability Programmes

You will provide strategic oversight of safeguarding governance, ensuring robust systems are in place to identify, monitor, escalate and learn from safeguarding concerns, incidents and statutory reviews. Working closely with executive colleagues, clinical leaders and system partners, you will ensure safeguarding remains embedded in every aspect of patient care and organisational decision-making.

Leading a highly respected Safeguarding and Vulnerabilities Team, you will foster a culture of professional curiosity, learning, compassion and accountability. You will provide expert guidance on complex safeguarding issues and ensure high-quality safeguarding supervision, education, quality assurance and support arrangements are in place across the Trust.

Qualification
Essential

• Degree in healthcare related subject: o Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor or School Nurse qualification) - Post graduate qualifications and experience equivalent to Masters level or significant experience of working in safeguarding Adults - Managerial experience in safeguarding adults
• Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife.
• Evidence of current ongoing training and development in safeguarding services
• Evidence of significant experience working with safeguarding partners such as ICBs, LA, Police and VSCP

Desirable

• Teaching qualification or equivalent experience

Experience
Essential

• Extensive experience in a senior role within safeguarding
• Extensive relevant NHS experience at senior level (Band 8a or above), including managing staff
• Operational experience in working with vulnerable adults / adult protection

Skills
Essential

• Experience of taking part in Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs), Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews (CSPRs), Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHRs), Serious Incident Reviews (SIRs), and LeDeR reviews, with in-depth knowledge of their purpose, processes, and contribution to improving safeguarding practice and outcomes for children, adults, and families.
• Experience of producing high-quality court reports as part of safeguarding practice, presenting clear, evidence based analysis and professional recommendations to support legal proceedings and promote the safety and welfare of children and adults at risk
• Intuitive, good judgment and the ability to communicate thoughts clearly and simply

• Provide leadership for safeguarding and vulnerabilities across the Trust, ensuring statutory and contractual responsibilities are effectively discharged.
• Act as the Trust's senior specialist lead for safeguarding children, safeguarding adults, mental capacity, deprivation of liberty safeguards, learning disability and autism, mental health, dementia, transition, domestic abuse, PREVENT, PIPOT, modern slavery and wider vulnerability agendas.
