Job summaryThe Ophthalmology Directorate is looking to appoint a full-time Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in Uveitis
The successful candidate will join a team of 17 consultants providing specialist services in Glaucoma, Diabetes, Cornea, Medical & Surgical Retina, Ocular Motility, Oculoplastics.
Main duties of the jobWhilst the post will be primarily based at New Cross Hospital, the successful candidate may be required to carry out clinics and theatre sessions at Cannock Chase Hospital or Walsall Manor Hospital.
The department welcomes applications from candidates who are in possession of FRCOphth or equivalent or those who are on the GMC specialist register (or are eligible for registration within 6 months of the interview date with a certificate of completion of specialist training).
About usThe department has two state of the art theatres based at New Cross Hospital and a bespoke, recently refurbished Cataract Theatre at the Cannock Chase Hospital site and is supported by Orthoptists, Hospital-based Optometrists, a fully equipped imaging department and fields machines.
A walk-in Emergency Service, led by Ophthalmic Nurse Specialists, is available within the Ophthalmology Emergency Department at the New Cross Hospital site and is supported by an Eye Referral Unit with booked appointments 'hot-clinics' for urgent cases.

Person SpecificationEducation and QualificationsEssential- Full Registration and a licence to practise with the GMC
- Must have been on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of interview
- FRCOphth or equivalent qualification
- Uveitis experience
Desirable- Relevant research published in peer review journal
ExperienceEssential- Specialist interest in Uveitis
Desirable- Evidence of audit and the implementation of change following audit
