Job summaryAs a Specialist Renal Pharmacist, you will provide expert pharmaceutical care to a high-acuity, highly complex renal patient group.
This role strengthens pharmacy input across dialysis units, renal outpatient clinics and inpatient wards. You will gain experience in all areas of renal pharmacy, supported to develop knowledge, skills and behaviours through mapping to the Advanced Pharmacy Framework and the Renal Expert Professional Practice Curriculum.
You will join our established team of pharmacists and technicians, supported by the Principal Pharmacist for Renal Medicine. The RWT Pharmacy Team are proud winners of the Trust's Clinical Team of the Year Award 2024, and our positive staff survey results reflect our supportive culture.

Applicants must be GPhC-registered with broad hospital pharmacy experience, including renal medicine. Independent prescribing is desirable, though full support will be provided if not yet achieved.

Main duties of the job- Support the Principal pharmacist to deliver an expert level of clinical pharmacy services to wards and departments within renal services inclusive of (not exhaustive): Renal wards, Dialysis units (including New Cross, Cannock and local off-site satellite units), Clinics e.g. transplant.
- To act as a role model as a senior pharmacist in terms of clinical practice, including as an independent prescriber.
- To provide specialist clinical pharmacy advice to patients of the renal service and liaise with the consultants and nursing teams to support safe and appropriate prescribing in this patient group.
- To provide support with education, training, service development and quality improvement initiatives in relation to renal specialities for both the directorate and pharmacy team.
- There will be delegated responsibility for leading on designated sub-specialty within renal services (e.g. dialysis, ward based) on a rotational basis with other postholder(s).
- There will be an expectation that all senior renal medicine pharmacists will liaise with each other and cross cover as appropriate.

Person SpecificationQualificationEssential- To have or be working towards a postgraduate clinical diploma or equivalent qualification (score 2 if in progress)

ExperienceEssential- Experience of working as part of the Pharmacy team within Renal services. Ability to demonstrate specialist knowledge of pharmacy in the specialty area.
- Demonstrable experience of working in an acute Trust setting.
- Ability to work both on own initiative and to co-operate within a team to achieve desired outcomes.
Desirable- Experience in supervising, training and assessing staff.
- Experience of working in outpatient clinic settings
