Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a neuromodulation specialist practitioner post. The post holder will work as part of a highly motivated multi-disciplinary pain and neuromodulation team. Responsibilities will include the care of patients with implanted neuromodulation systems including spinal cord stimulator's and intrathecal pumps. The Team has a strong focus on audit, research and education and the post holder will also be regularly involved in these activities.

Main duties of the job
Responsibilities will include the assessment and management of patients undergoing day case and inpatient surgery for implantation of Spinal Cord Stimulator's for chronic pain, and intrathecal pumps implants for pain or spasticity. The candidate will be expected to assess and manage these patients through the entire pathway. Including; pre-operative assessment, trial of implant, through their admission, and into the post-operative outpatient phase. They will also be expected to support and educate ward nursing/ therapy staff where appropriate in the management of this patient group.

The role involves liaising closely with medical staff, nurses and therapists within the hospital settings to provide evidence based care to patients, in a supportive environment.This is an exciting opportunity for both professional and personal development.Applicants with a keen interest in chronic pain management are encouraged to apply. It is important to have practiced in a clinical area relevant to the specialty. Training will be offered in all aspects of the job related to neuromodulation. Applicants will need to demonstrate that they are motivated and dynamic in their approach, with excellent communication and organisational skills.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • RGN/RN Part 1
  • Clinical experience of working with patients suffering chronic pain and/or spasticity.
  • Evidence of post registration education & development.
  • Diploma/Degree in health related subject.
  • Certificate/post registration module in pain management.
  • Experience caring for patients with Neuromodulation devices.
  • At least 2 years' experience in Neurosciences.

Desirable
  • Leadership qualification.
  • Teaching certificate.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential
  • Knowledge of working within the speciality with a broad range of knowledge relating to the specialist area
  • Evidence of ongoing/recent post registration development
  • Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area
  • Experience in the supervision of junior nursing staff
  • Experience of evidence approach to clinical practice and clinical audit, including implementation of findings and review of outcomes

Desirable
  • Experience of managing human and financial resources
