Job summaryTo provide a high-quality obstetric ultrasound service, undertaking first trimester Nuchal Translucency (NT) screening examinations in accordance with national screening programme standards and local policies. The post holder will independently perform, interpret, and report obstetric ultrasound examinations, ensuring accurate assessment of fetal wellbeing and supporting the delivery of safe and effective maternity care. The post holder will contribute to the antenatal screening programme and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide patient-centred care.
Main duties of the job- Perform first trimester ultrasound examinations, including Nuchal Translucency (NT) measurements in accordance with the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) and NHS Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme (FASP) requirements.
- Accurately obtain and record NT measurements and associated screening data.
- Assess fetal viability, gestational age, fetal number, chorionicity, and early fetal anatomy as appropriate.
- Independently interpret ultrasound findings and produce accurate reports.
- Identify and appropriately escalate abnormal findings requiring further investigation or referral.
- Provide information and reassurance to women and their families throughout the examination process.
- Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control.
- Ensure all examinations are undertaken in line with professional, clinical, and legal requirements.

Person SpecificationExperienceEssential- Significant experience in obstetric ultrasound.
- Experience performing first trimester screening scans.
- Experience obtaining NT measurements in accordance with national standards.
- Experience of independent reporting.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
Essential Knowledge- Knowledge of NHS Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme standards.
- Understanding of antenatal screening pathways.
- Knowledge of obstetric ultrasound techniques and fetal development.
- Understanding of safeguarding, clinical governance, and risk management.
Essential Skills- Excellent ultrasound scanning skills.
- Ability to work independently and make clinical decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- IT literacy and experience using ultrasound reporting systems.
QualificationsEssential- DQASS essential - Completed and Valid
- Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Medical Ultrasound (or equivalent).
- Qualification enabling independent obstetric ultrasound practice.
- Current registration with an appropriate professional body such as: Health and Care Professions Council (where applicable), Nursing and Midwifery Council (where applicable), General Medical Council (where applicable)
- Current certification/accreditation for Nuchal Translucency screening.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD.
