Job summary
As an HCPC registered scientist you will play a pivotal role in supporting one of the busiest stem cell transplantation laboratories in Europe. The Transplantation Programme is licenced by the Human Tissue Authority and accredited by JACIE, making us an attractive centre for a large number of clinical trials investigating cellular therapy products for a range of diseases. In addition, UCLH is also a centre selected to treat patients with licenced commercial products and will soon be participating in the exciting field of Tumour Infiltrating Lymphocyte (TIL) therapies.

In order to manage and maintain the high throughput service we provide, strong working relationships with several teams is crucial. The laboratory works very closely with clinical and quality management teams to ensure that we deliver the best possible outcomes for our patients and continue to improve our services. As a dedicated and responsible scientist supporting the laboratory you will find this a challenging and rewarding role.

Main duties of the job
UCLH is one of the largest Haemopoietic Stem Cell Transplant centres in Europe. We perform over 400 transplants per year, provide vital services for UK bone marrow transplant registries and are actively involved in many clinical trials utilising CAR-T therapies.

An opportunity has arisen for a responsible and self-motivated HCPC registered scientist to join the laboratory team within the Haemopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Programme. The team consists of 9 scientists who are all involved in the processing, storage, and distribution of cellular therapy products for patients undergoing transplantation. A rigorous quality management system is in place to ensure that the facility operates within national and international legislation, and provides the best possible care to patients and donors.

As part of this small, dedicated team, the post holder will be required to work in a clean-room environment to process bone marrow, stem cells and other cellular therapy products for patient transplant. The post holder will be required to maintain at all times the high standards and quality of this highly regulated service and keep an up-to-date knowledge of Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation Biology, and current working practices in those areas.
