University College London Hospital NHS Trust (UCLH) is looking for a qualified and enthusiastic applicant for the post of senior tier 2 resident (ST7-8 OR post CCT) in neonatal medicine. This is an exciting opportunity to gain tertiary neonatal intensive care experience working in the heart of central London at UCLH. This appointment is for 6 months, working in the neonatal intensive care unit at UCLH.

The UCLH neonatal unit is the primary referral centre for neonatal intensive care (a tertiary unit with 21 ITU and HDU cots) for the North Central London Perinatal Network and provides a full range of intensive care for the sickest and most vulnerable babies. We specialise in neonatal neuro-critical care, and we are a regional centre for therapeutic hypothermia (cooling). We work in partnership with our UCLH fetal medicine unit, a regional, national and international referral centre for complex pregnancies, and the world-renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), specialist paediatric hospital, to collaboratively care for babies with complex conditions.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join a well-established clinical, academic and multidisciplinary neonatal team with an international reputation for delivering excellent in neonatal care, education and research. Job responsibilities

This role provides substantial senior level clinical experience and is designed to support progression towards consultant practice. Senior residents will develop advanced skills in clinical leadership, decision making and service management while working closely with consultants and the wider multi-disciplinary team. during shift work, the post holder will undertake responsibilities consistent with acting as the senior clinical decision maker and chief doctor on the shift, ensuring safe, effective and coordinated patient care while supporting junior staff and collaborating closely with the MDT. This position provides excellent preparation for future senior leadership roles within neonatal medicine.

All candidates must be eligible for full GMC registration.

Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
• MRCPCH or equivalent

Desirable

• MSc or other higher degree

ELIGIBILITY

• Previous experience of working at middle grade in paediatrics/ neonatology in the UK or at an equivalent level neonatal unit overseas
• Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment
• Evidence of excellent medical practice
• Eligibility to work in the UK

Desirable

• Previous experience in a neonatal tertiary centre
• Experience in a sub-speciality relevant to neonatal medicine
• Experience in contributing to service development and quality improvement.

FITNESS TO PRACTICE

• Is up to date and fit to practice safely

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues which could be demonstrated by one of the following: a)that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English or b)have the following scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (ELTS) - Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 6, Reading 6, Writing 6 However, if applicants believe that they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of the examples, they need to provide evidence
