Description
Junior Sister/Charge Nurse
University Hospital Southampton is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Main duties of the job
Are you looking for an opportunity to enhance your leadership skills by joining a nursing team dedicated to improving ward performance and delivering exceptional patient care? Two permanent, full-time Band 6 Ward Sister / Charge Nurse positions are available at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, with one role on the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit and the other on the E Neuro ward.
E Neuro is a 26-bed female acute neurosurgery and neurological ward. We also have admission / step-down beds for patients who are transferred from Neuro Intensive Care Unit. These beds accommodate all acute neurosurgical conditions, including subarachnoid haemorrhage and head injuries.
Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) is a 13-bed specialist, fast-paced clinical environment providing immediate assessment, diagnosis and treatment for patients presenting with suspected acute stroke. The unit delivers high-quality, evidence-based, patient centred care, supporting patients through the critical early stages of their stroke journey.
Working within a dedicated multidisciplinary team, staff play a vital role in the rapid assessment, monitoring, treatment and management of patients, ensuring timely interventions and the best possible outcomes. The unit offers an opportunity to develop specialist clinical skills, work collaboratively across disciplines and make a meaningful difference to patients and their families during a particularly vulnerable time.
About us
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated 'Good' by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.
We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.
Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 30% lower than London and 17 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
