Job summary
UHB Paediatrics 0-16 years: Where a passion and career come together!

Our High Dependency Service is a growing provision, and we are looking for skilled nurses to join our team.

UHB Children's Services are seeking enthusiastic and experienced Paediatric Nurses with a passion for caring for children who require enhanced observation, monitoring and high dependency care.

As one of the largest paediatric services in the region, UHB provides care through a friendly, dynamic and highly skilled multidisciplinary team committed to delivering safe, compassionate and family-centred care. We provide an excellent experience for children, young people and their families in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Our service includes a 6-bedded Level 2 High Dependency Unit (HDU) at Heartlands Hospital and a paediatric HDU stabilisation bed at Good Hope Hospital. Working across both sites, our specialist team delivers high-quality care to children with a wide range of acute and complex healthcare needs.

Children may be admitted with serious illness, deterioration of a chronic condition, following complex surgery, or as part of a step-down pathway from Paediatric Intensive Care. You will be responsible for delivering safe, effective nursing care, supporting colleagues and contributing to excellent patient outcomes.

At UHB, we value our staff and are committed to supporting professional development through a range of learning opportunities and career pathways.

Main duties of the job
As a band 5 Nurse working for the Paediatric High Dependency service across Heartlands & Good Hope Hospital, you will join a highly skilled, established team caring for critically ill children at UHB.

As a staff nurse you will practice autonomously and be responsible and accountable for delivering safe, compassionate, person-centred care.

You are required to demonstrate evidence-based nursing care that respects and maintains dignity and human rights.

You will be skilled in the assessment of patient care needs, recognising deterioration, escalating safely and appropriately.

You will plan and implement programmes of care, delivering treatment and evaluating care without direct supervision.

You must be able to communicate effectively and maintain high quality records.

You will work in accordance with Trust Policies, Procedures and Guidelines and adhere to the NMC Code.

We promote a family centred care approach to nursing and collaborate closely with parents, carers and their children when planning and delivering care.

The post holder will practice in a holistic, non-judgmental, caring and compassionate manner that avoids assumptions, supports social inclusion and recognises and respects individual choice and acknowledges diversity. They will work in partnership with other health and social care professionals, students and trainees and agencies, service users, their carers and families.

We expect all our nurses to promote a positive attitude and be a professional role model.
