Job summary
The Nurse Trainee Colposcopist Post (Band 6) will include training in the skills, then upon qualifying will be a Band 7, and will take a key role in leading and developing the colposcopy service across the organisation.

Using advanced nursing practice; manage a cohort of patients referred for specialist intervention, care and support.

Demonstrate highly developed and advanced specialist knowledge and skills through innovative practice leading to the development of increasing levels of autonomy. Develop strategies to ensure practice development and education for other health care workers caring for patients within this speciality. The post holder will be a core member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).

Main duties of the job
Provide specialist nursing service, to a cohort of patients referred to the specialist service. Care will reflect current local protocols & national guidelines. Work clinically for 100% of the role demonstrating advanced practice skills in the holistic assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care, using analytical and judgemental skills in accordance with the BSCCP/NHSCSP guidelines. Undertake clinical competencies relevant to this specialist service. Advise on the complex disease & symptom management for patients within the speciality. Work autonomously in the development & delivery of nurse led in line with National guidance. Use advanced communication skills to provide verbal & written information to patients & their families/carers, in a timely manner specific to their individual needs. Maintain links with local and national organisations, which support the care of patients within this speciality the care pathway on a frequent basis. Identify & use advanced educational strategies to deliver complex information to patients and carers. Develop policies & protocols to support the specialist service. Raise the profile of the service within the Trust. Maintain membership and attendance to network & debate issues to inform the specialist nursing role & service delivery. Participate in the collection, validation & distribution of the KC65. Provide professional advice & support groups.
