Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join the Solihull Community Respiratory Team. Working as part of a friendly multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for patients with respiratory conditions across a variety of settings, including community venues, hospital sites and patients' homes.

You will work flexibly across the service, supporting respiratory outpatients, community services and pulmonary rehabilitation programmes to help patients improve their independence, function and quality of life.

Main duties of the job

• Take delegated responsibility from the Band 7 therapist for managing patients with a range of conditions, providing specialist therapy assessments and developing appropriate treatment plans.
• Undertake comprehensive assessments for patients with diverse or complex presentations and multipathologies, using advanced clinical reasoning and manual assessment techniques to formulate accurate diagnoses of conditions and associated problems.
• Formulate and recommend Occupational Therapy treatment programmes based on sound knowledge of evidencebased practice, clinical assessment, and professional reasoning.
• Ensure the safe and competent use of all equipment, patient appliances, and aids, and ensure that junior staff and assistants achieve competency before using them with patients.
• Provide both spontaneous and planned specialist advice to medical, nursing, and other multidisciplinary colleagues regarding patients' conditions, treatment needs, and fitness for discharge.
• Apply specialist knowledge across a range of routine and nonroutine Occupational Therapy practices, requiring expertise within the speciality field.
• Manage clinical risk within your own caseload at all times, ensuring safe and effective care.
• Assess and recommend appropriate levels of support for patients and their families, working closely with external agencies where required.
• Demonstrate resilience and emotional intelligence when working with unwell patients, as well as anxious relatives and carers.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy.
• Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD), including recent postgraduate training relevant to the clinical speciality.

Desirable

• Member of specialist interest group.
• Attendance at Clinical Educators course.

Experience
Essential

• Demonstration of clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients within the speciality.
• A specialist knowledge across a range of Occupational Therapy treatments, routine and non-routine requiring expertise within the field of occupational therapy.
• Experience of working with student occupational therapists and therapy support workers.
• An ability to analyse clinical and non clinical complex facts and situations, which require the interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
• An ability to plan, organise, formulate and adjust complex plans.
• An ability to supervise and delegate work to therapy colleagues, support workers and students.
• Understanding of current legislation and application to Occupational therapy.

Desirable

• Experience of supporting students and more junior therapy staff.
• An understanding of discharge routes in the community
