Job summary
Are you an experienced, compassionate, and forward thinking leader looking for your next challenge? We are seeking a Modern Matron to join our dynamic Place Team, providing visible leadership and driving excellence in patient care across a diverse portfolio of community and integrated services.

Our Place Team brings together a wide range of services, including CINSS, Podiatry, Wheelchair Services, Urgent and Emergency Care, the Integrated Care Home Team, Clinical Educators, Digital Services, and Parkinson's Specialist Services. This unique role offers the opportunity to work across multidisciplinary teams, supporting quality improvement, service development, workforce wellbeing, and outstanding patient experiences.

As Modern Matron, you will be a highly visible leader, championing clinical standards, professional practice, and innovation while fostering strong partnerships across health and care services.

Main duties of the job
A credible senior leader with managerial responsibility for both nursing and allied health professionals ensuring services are responsive to patient needs. Working as a visible lead within the group management structure, demonstrating and developing collaborative working within and across the MDT. The Modern Matron has a pivotal role in creating the best experiences and opportunities for our staff to become local, national, and international leaders in healthcare with the patient at the centre of everything we do.

Job responsibilities
  • To be a visible leader, ensuring a physical presence, providing professional nurse leadership and demonstrating, through personal behaviours, the core values of UHCW NHS Trust. Ensuring a professional appearance, maintaining professional standards, and leading by example.
  • To visit and be present on wards and departments within areas of responsibility daily and to be accessible to staff via face to face or other forms of communication, ensuring time is provided to staff to discuss concerns, inequalities or clinical issues that may affect clinical effectiveness.
  • To conduct planned gemba walks or rounding in their areas of responsibility in order to support their teams and improvement opportunities, potential issues and waste.
  • To act as an expert resource, providing advice on nursing issues in relation to policies, protocols, service delivery and the adoption of the organisations aims.
  • To demonstrate inclusive leadership, embedding local and national standards to ensure the delivery of safe care, working collaboratively with the wider MDT.
  • To act as an influence on maintaining cleaning standards, maintaining environmental cleanliness, infection prevention and control compliance locally, ensuring that IPC is everyones responsibility.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Graduate and/or working towards Masters degree
  • Current professional registration (NMC or HCPC)
  • Demonstrable CPD
  • Completion of leadership development programme or course

Desirable
  • Management course/qualification
  • Qualifications in specialism

Experience
Essential
  • Professional clinical experience at a senior level
  • Proven record of leading and effectively managing change
  • Experience of successfully resolving complex problems
  • Experience of successful resource & budget management
  • Experience in service development

Desirable
  • Evidence of conference presentation or journal publication
  • Project management
  • Experience of working in primary care or community services

Knowledge
Essential
  • A sound knowledge of professional priorities and issues
  • A knowledgeable clinician with ability to ensure clinical governance is embedded in practice
  • Knowledge of the national and local NHS healthcare agenda and its implications
  • Knowledge of research/audit processes and application

Desirable
  • Experience of successful patient/public involvement

  • Demonstrate ability to produce complex reports and formulate policies
  • Highly developed communication, influencing and negotiating skills
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Able to use initiative and make decisions
