Job summaryWe are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Consultant with a Specialist Interest in Hepatobiliary Medicine to join our University of Derby and Burton Hospitals (UHDB) team of 5 Hepatology consultants and 8 specialist nurses. Our IQILS (Improving Quality of Liver Services) accredited service is based at the Royal Derby Hospital, where patients have access to a dedicated Hepatology ward.
We are a Level 2 Liver Unit providing comprehensive care for all aspects of hepatobiliary disease including day case paracentesis, liver biopsy, Fibroscan, ERCP, EUS and spyglass cholangioscopy. We are a tertiary referral centre for PTC and TIPSS, supported by 4 GI radiologists.
We hold weekly specialist hepatobiliary cancer MDT meeting with input from cancer surgeons at Nottingham, our local tertiary centre. They also provide specialist outreach clinics at both Derby and Burton. We provide specialist training to Specialty Registrars, including a new Derby-Birmingham Advanced Training Post in Hepatology, and dedicated endoscopy fellows.

This is a full-time position; part-time or job-share applicants are welcome. If a part-time or job-share person is successful the job content will be discussed with the appointee on a personal basis. Informal visits are welcomed.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will work closely with our 14 luminal gastroenterologists providing a 24/7 gastroenterology and liver service including a daily inpatient endoscopy list and endoscopy nurse supported out of hours GI bleed service. The Royal Derby Hospital has a 7-room endoscopy unit with the latest HD instruments and performs over 20,000 procedures annually.
To provide clinical services to Derby, East Staffordshire and surrounding areas, with colleagues and to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients at the hospitals & clinics at which you have duties and the proper functioning of the department.
To provide continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed and teaching of staff in training, and the multidisciplinary team.
Maintaining flexible arrangements for emergency cover and a provision of cover for colleagues during reasonable periods of leave.
Provision of an out-of-hours service with colleagues including on-call rota commitments
Active participation in undergraduate & post graduate education, including training sessions for resident doctors, medical students and other healthcare staff in the specialty.
Assist in the supervision & training of medical staff/students, carrying out teaching, examination & accreditation duties as required & contributing to postgraduate & CPD activity locally & nationally as appropriate

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Possession of MRCP
- MBBS or equivalent
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register for Gastroenterology OR within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview OR If applying for Full GMC Registration & Licence to Practice simultaneously with a CESR/Portfolio Pathway application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview, to confirm an application has been submitted & is under consideration by the GMC
