Description

Job summary
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Consultant Anaesthetist to join our established and supportive Anaesthetic Department at Queen's Hospital Burton.

This is a great opportunity to join a friendly and experienced consultant team, working across a broad and varied range of anaesthetic practice. Queen's Hospital Burton provides anaesthetic services across general surgery, trauma and orthopaedics, obstetrics, gynaecology, ENT, maxillofacial, paediatrics, urology and ophthalmology, providing plenty of variety as well as opportunities to develop individual specialist interests.

We have a strong multidisciplinary approach and place real importance on education, training, clinical governance and continuous improvement. Consultants are encouraged to contribute to service development, quality improvement, teaching and research, with scope to develop their own areas of interest within the needs of the department.

It is also an exciting time to join us. We are continuing to develop our elective surgical services at Burton and have ambitions to progress our surgical hub accreditation, creating opportunities for the successful applicant to be involved in shaping and developing services rather than simply joining an established rota.

We would particularly welcome applicants who want to become an active part of the department, bring new ideas and help us continue to improve the services we provide for patients across Burton upon Trent and the surrounding area.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive anaesthetic service across University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, with Queen's Hospital Burton as their base hospital.

The role will include:
  • Providing independent consultant anaesthetic care across a wide range of surgical specialties.

  • Participating in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development.
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of services, including protocols, guidelines and new ways of working.
  • Opportunities to contribute to research, innovation and development according to individual interests.

The post is initially based around 8.5 Direct Clinical Care PAs and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activity PAs, with a final job plan agreed with the Clinical Director and reviewed after three months.
