Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the discharge lounge at Furness General Hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse who is passionate about improving the discharge experience for our patients.

You will be required to lead a small team who will be responsible for the timely transfer and care of patients on the day of their discharge. You will support the wards to transfer the patients and ensure that they are discharged safely from the unit.

You will be supported by the clinical site management team and the Matron team on site.

Main duties of the job

• Take charge of the Discharge Lounge on a day to day basis and maintain safe and effective working of the department, escalating issues as required.
• Ensuring a high standard of nursing care is provided to patients from all specialties and is maintained while awaiting transfer and discharge home within the Discharge Lounge.
• Liaising with all wards and departments to encourage effective patient flow and utilisation of beds.
• To support and supervise staff within the Discharge Lounge ensuring that patient needs are assessed, implemented and evaluated, and that there is consultation and involvement of patient/carers.
• Contribute to quality improvement and take appropriate action informing the Site Manager when there are concerns obstructing the running of the discharge lounge.
• Provide effective leadership and support to all grades of staff, planning and directing activities to provide the optimal standard of care.
• Ensure that the ward/dept is clean and provides a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Participate in Directorate/site management responsibilities.

About us
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
