The Clinical Skills Team are looking to recruitregistered health care practitioners with experience in acute or critical care and clinical teaching.

You will be part of a well-established and dedicated team; working in partnership with Trust colleagues and partner universities. You will be required to contribute to the design, delivery, assessment and evaluation of the clinical skills training programmes utilising a broad range of teaching and learning strategies.

The Clinical Skills Team have a strong commitment to continued professional development and service improvement. The successful applicant will be required to complete the 'Consultation and Physical Examination' course and a PGCE.

These are part time vacancies, and the successful applicants will be required to worktheir hours over three days, 08:00-17:00,across all Trust sites and at partner universities.

During larger training activities and clinical assessment weeks, flexibility is essential and working hours may increase to 07:00-19:00.Annual leave cannot be taken during the clinical assessment weeks. Staff can apply for leave only in exceptional circumstances.

Anyone newly appointed will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 4-month probationary period

Main duties of the job
The post holder will: -

• Have a key role in ensuring a coordinated approach to the education and development of clinical staff. This includes medical students, nurses, midwives, clinical support workers and medical staff on the foundation programme.
• Assist the Clinical Skills Manager to plan clinical skills training programmes, through the development and delivery of clinical skills workshops.
• Assess the competence of staff and students working within the Trust to ensure that patients are cared for by staff with the appropriate knowledge and skills to provide safe care.
• Identify the need to improve the service by developing new clinical skills training programmes in line with the trust educational strategies and clinical priorities, ensuring equity across Trust sites.
• Contribute to the Undergraduate Medical Education clinical skills training programmes and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs). This will involve co-ordinating the delivery of clinical skills training, clinical supervision and assessment of competence.
• Contribute to the delivery of the AIM courses on a regular basis across Trust sites.

About us
We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and Qualifications
Essential

• 1st level registered nurse or equivalent registered practitioner
• Diploma education or equivalent experience
• Recognised teaching / training / assessment qualification
• Evidence of CPD

Desirable

• Completed AIM course or equivalent
• ECDL course or equivalent
• ILS course
• Working towards a relevant degree
• Consultation and Physical Examination Course or equivalent
• PG Cert in Education or equivalent

Experience
Essential

• Relevant experience in acute or critical care setting
• Managing or leading a team
• Facilitating training
• Assessment of competence in clinical areas

Desirable

• Experience in using different learning styles
