Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Chronic Pain Nurse to join the pain management team. The post is temporary, covering maternity leave for 12 months. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse with experience in all areas of pain management, both acute and chronic, with some knowledge of specialist pain management techniques. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supported by pain consultants, specialist chronic pain nurses, and other members work alongside of the pain team.

The role will involve daily referral triaging, telephone/video patient review clinics, and active involvement in our 1-1 Self -Management, and Group Pain Management Programmes. Both our programmes are nurse lead, and very much patient centred, providing MDT delivery to holistic care.

The successful candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to work autonomously as part of themultidisciplinary team committed to delivering high quality patient care.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be involved in delivering multidisciplinary education and contributing to project work to support service improvement forpatients experiencing pain.

The successful applicant will be supported with clinical and managerial supervision.

Person Specification
Qualifications and experience
Essential
  • 1st Level Registered Nurse
  • Educated or working towards degree qualification
  • Post registration experience in teaching or mentorship
  • Post registration qualification or relevant experience in pain management or surgical nursing.
  • Clinical experience working in pain clinics, surgical nursing, theatres, or ICU.
  • Evidence of management and leadership experience.
  • Experience working autonomously.
  • Experience managing a caseload of patients with acute pain.
  • Experience teaching and developing staff.
  • Ability to develop expert practice.
  • Evidence of service development in chronic or acute pain services.
  • Change management experience.

Desirable
  • Experience of carrying out research / audits.
  • Experience of presenting to an audience.

Skills
Essential
  • Current knowledge of contemporary issues in pain management locally and nationally.
  • Ability to manage and organise time effectively
  • Competence in a range of IT skills
  • Pain management knowledge underpinned by theory and experience.
  • Understanding current NHS issues and initiatives.
  • Demonstrable basic and advanced clinical skills relevant to pain management.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and its application in pain management.

Desirable
  • Experience in the management of epidural infusions, Patient Controlled Analgesia and local anesthetic infusions
