Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with the relevant skills, experience and knowledge to join the Maternity Safeguarding Team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB).

This is a 15 hour permanent position.

Morecambe Bay is one of the most picturesque parts of the country with the Lake District on our doorstep.

You will be an autonomous practitioner who will offer specialist knowledge, advice and supervision to UHMB maternity colleagues who are working both within the hospital and the community.

You will work closely with the Named Midwife for Safeguarding to deliver the Trust's statutory requirements and safeguarding agenda.

You will be working as part of an integrated children's and adults safeguarding team which works across the three main hospital sites, but your focus will be on maternity safeguarding.

Main duties of the job
As the Safeguarding Specialist Midwife, the post holder will:

• Provide professional support and advice to practitioners within the Trust who are dealing with maternity safeguarding issues.
• Provide safeguarding supervision to staff in line with the Trust safeguarding supervision policy.
• Actively participate in the development and deliver of maternity safeguarding training.
• Work collaboratively with maternity/obstetric colleagues, other healthcare providers and relevant agencies on all matters relation to maternity safeguarding.
• Act as the advocate for the mother, unborn baby and newborn infant.

About us
We operatefrom three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, andUlverstonCommunity Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies,daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes ,community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent , improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care , advice and support.

• Registered Midwife
• Experience of Professional Development
• Evidence of dealing with safeguarding issues in a maternity setting
• Highly developed communication skills
• Demonstrable teaching and presentation skills
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, approachable individual

Desirable

• Additional experience in maternity safeguarding
• Experience in the delivery of safeguarding supervision
• Skilled in multi-agency assessment and working together with partner agencies
• Understanding of working with complex family situations
