Description

Job summary
This Band 6 CNS role is designed to provide holistic, clinical and psycho-social, support to patients aged 16 years or above with a diagnosis of a myeloid malignancy at UHNM. The successful candidate will be the designated keyworker for this patient group. The role will entail delivering expert advice and information on the many issues facing this patient cohort whether they be community, day case or inpatient based. Under the supervision of a Band 7 practitioner the routine monitoring of blood tests is a requirement of this role and depending on results you will facilitate red cell or blood product transfusion. You will be expected to respond to calls made to our patient helplines, which may require the arrangement of a timely clinical review, signposting services or completing appropriate referrals. The nature of the role requires a degree of flexibility in working, self management and prioritising of care delivery.

Main duties of the job
As a key member of the Myeloid Clinical Nurse Specialist team, you will provide expert, holistic care and support to patients diagnosed with myeloid malignancies, guiding them from diagnosis through treatment, survivorship or palliative care. Working across UHNM and community services, you will coordinate care, provide specialist advice and education, contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, and act as a patient advocate throughout their cancer journey.

The role involves assessing patients' clinical and supportive care needs, delivering compassionate, evidence-based care, maintaining accurate clinical documentation, and collaborating with a wide range of healthcare professionals and external agencies. You will also contribute to service development through audit, quality improvement, clinical research, and ongoing professional development, helping to ensure the highest standards of care for patients with haematological cancers.
