Main duties of the jobWe are looking for an enthusiastic team-player who would like to increase their knowledge and skills around in their chosen subspecialty area of trauma and orthopaedic surgery. To get maximum benefit, they should already be competent at routine hand, hip or knee surgery as dictated by the role. They must have current ATLS and should have FRCS (Tr and Orth). Post holders with CCT may be given some independent operating lists.

Job responsibilitiesThe post offers exposure to all aspects of primary hip arthroplasty, including the young adult, DDH, SUFE, Perthes and complex revision hip surgery in a tertiary hip unit.
Brighton has been a Major Trauma Centre for over 10 years. Pelvic and Acetabular surgeons have approximately 2 lists per week in the MTC. The post holder will be offered lists here. The successful candidate will be expected to complete a research project and publication during their tenure.
Person SpecificationExperience and QualificationsEssential- Basic Medical Degree
- Postgraduate qualification or appropriate specialist qualification
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- Valid Advanced Trauma Life Support Certificate (ATLS)
DesirableClinical Skills and ExperienceEssential- Competencies equivalent to completion of ST6, as a minimum
- Completion of FRCS(Orth) or equivalent
Desirable- Certificate of completion of Training (CCT)
- Demonstrate interest in pelvic, acetabular and complex hip surgery
Organisation and PlanningEssential- Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
- Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
Desirable- Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
Teaching SkillsEssential- Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
Desirable- Recognised teaching qualification
