Job Summary
University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust's Speech & Language Therapy Department is looking for a part time B7 Speech and Language Therapist to cover a maternity leave (fixed term contract). We are looking for someone with demonstrable experience and skills in managing complex voice and laryngeal dysfunction disorders as well as ENT/H&N related OP dysphagia.

Please note: This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under the current UK immigration rules, which set specific salary and skill thresholds. As such, we are unable to provide sponsorship for this post. Applicants will therefore need to already have the right to work in the UK to be considered. We include this information at the outset to provide clarity and avoid unnecessary inconvenience for applicants.

If you do not meet the sponsorship requirements, and you are applying using a Graduate visa as your right to work, you must have a minimum of 18 months remaining on your visa at time of application.

Before applying, employees must discuss the opportunity with their current line manager to confirm whether they may be released from their substantive role if successful. Release to undertake a secondment is not an automatic entitlement and must be agreed by all relevant parties: the employee, their current line manager, and the recruiting line manager.


Main Duties of the Job
You will be providing an online outpatient service for the assessment and management for children and adults referred by our team of ENT and OMFS consultants. You will be supported in waiting list reduction strategies by the principal lead SLT for ENT and Voice disorders services and as part of the wider speech and language therapy service.

Job Responsibilities
  • To be an advanced therapist within the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT)team providing a comprehensive, highly specialist clinical service to all patients referred with complex communication and/or swallowing difficultiesin ENT services.
  • To be an active member of theSLT team and a highly specialist resource and advisor on complex swallowing and/or communication disorders in relation to the highly specialistcaseload including liaison with other SLTs and other professionals external toUHSussexin relation to highly specialist information,analysisand advice on continuing care.
  • to contribute toinstrumentalassessments carried outbySLTcolleagues within and external tothe Trust and give specialist opinion.
  • Tocomply withthe standards and priorities laid down by the SLT manager and operational manager/sforcancer and ENT services.
  • To lead on waiting list initiatives and efficient management ofpatientson the non-urgent waiting list

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • HCPC Registration
  • RCSLT member
  • dysphagia trained to RCSLT level 4
  • Degree or recognised equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy.

Desirable
  • Advanced dysphagia training and competencies
  • Knowledge of other professionals' roles related to specialist area
