Job summary
We are looking to appoint two Mental Health Advisers to join our expanding Mental Health Advisory Team. The Mental Health Advisory Service (MHAS) is a team of Senior Mental Health Advisers & Mental Health Advisers, within the Student Counselling Service (SCS). The Mental Health Advisers work 1-1 and in groups with students and key functions of the role include triage and assessment, formulations, care planning, liaison, risk management and risk reduction work with students.

Main duties of the job
The Mental Health Advisory Team supports students with severe and enduring, complex mental health difficulties. As a Mental Health adviser, you would complete triage, assessments and risk formulations, and create care-plans as part of the wider student support offer. Mental Health advisers deliver 1-1 and group sessions with students and may create group session material. A Mental Health Adviser may also liaise with internal and external partners.

You will work alongside the Senior Mental Health advisers, wider university support and external Mental Health Pathways to provide the most appropriate package of support to the students accessing our service.

The Mental Health Advisory Team meet regularly to coordinate complex case work, for team meetings and development and supervision.

Qualifications
Essential

• Qualification in profession relevant to the post (mental health nurse, mental health occupational therapist, mental health social worker)
• Registration and good professional standing within a relevant Professional body which includes a responsibility to maintain professional accreditation through updating skills and knowledge, and which upholds a code of ethics and a complaints procedure
• Experience of working with complex mental health, and risk including suicidality
• Knowledge and experience of using effective mental health interventions
• Experience of delivering effective triage, assessment and short-term interventions

Desirable

• Experience of working with individuals who use drugs including alcohol
• Ability to develop and facilitate group work
