An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Children's nurse to undertake the role of a Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse. The Successful applicant will work across the acute inpatient unit, PAU and Paediatric Virtual Ward.
It is an exciting time to join the paediatric team at Walsall due to the expansion and progression of the service. PAU has moved to a state-of-the-art purpose-built unit co-located with the Paediatric Emergency Department. The unit is leading the way in progressing virtual wards and a new team structure is creating a new dynamic way of team working.
The Paediatric Directorate at Walsall Manor Hospital consists of a 21 bedded General Paediatric Ward, which takes medical and surgical patients. A 12 bedded Paediatric Assessment Unit which provide short stay observation for assessment of children and young people. A Children's outpatient's department and a Children's community team providing acute and complex care within the community. We also have a 12 bedded Paediatric Virtual ward which supports the PAU.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will assist the senior sister in the leadership across the Paediatric departments , they will support established nursing staff in the delivery of high quality patient care and provide education and support to junior members of the team.
You must have relevant experience at working as a band 5 nurse in acute paediatrics.
The post will include day and night shifts to provide senior support across the paediatric service
Paediatric virtual ward provide nursing care to children in their home environment using remote assessment and face to face visits. Our paediatric virtual ward support the flow of through our paediatric departments supporting early discharge.
The post holder will liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty.
Working under the direction of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse the post holder will be responsible for the delivery a high standard of individualized care for all patients.
Ensure that care is appropriately planned, implemented and evaluated. Work with minimal supervision and take responsibility/oversee the care of paediatric patients who attend PAU.
Manage complex clinical situations, providing guidance, supervision and support to junior members of staff.Support the Senior Sister/Matron to monitor the safety and quality of care ensuring the provision of safe, quality care and treatment for patients which delivers the best clinical outcomes and patient experience.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- RSCN or RN (Child)
- EPALS / APLS
- HDU/Critical care course
ExperienceEssential- Significant Paediatric Nursing experience at band 5.
- NIC competent
SkillsEssential- Must demonstrate good understanding of professional responsibilities and patient experience initiatives
- Effective communication
- Knowledge of paediatric governance standards
