Job summaryApplications are invited for an enthusiastic Cardiologist to join our dynamic and supportive Cardiology team at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, HSJ NHS Trust of the Year, 2025.
This is a full-time, 12-month locum consultant post, primarily to support the Trust's RTT recovery programme, supporting our Cardiac Rhythm Management and Arrhythmia services. The role will include specialist clinics and cardiac catheter laboratory sessions, predominantly in cardiac pacing, as well as internal cover within the specialist team.
The successful candidate will work closely with consultant colleagues, specialist nurses, cardiac physiologists and the wider multidisciplinary team, contributing to the delivery and development of high-quality cardiology services.
The post is offered at 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week.
Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will:
- Contribute to clinical services across the Cardiology department.
- Undertake cath lab sessions, including pacemaker implantation.
- Work collaboratively with the wider cardiology team to enhance service provision and promote innovation.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary working with specialist nurses, consultants and other members of the clinical team.
- Run General and specialist Cardiology outpatient clinics.
- Provide early diagnosis, treatment and appropriate follow-up for patients with cardiovascular disease.
- Contribute to improving waiting times, patient experience and Referral to Treatment (RTT) performance.
- Support the delivery of efficient, patient-centred outpatient services.

Job responsibilitiesThe post-holder will be professionally and managerially accountable to the Clinical Lead for Cardiology, Dr Piyush Jain, and will work within the established divisional and Trust management structure. Person SpecificationMRCP or equivalentEssential- MRCP or equivalent
- Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.
- CCT in Cardiology (or within 6 months at time of interview) or inclusion on the Specialist Register
- CCT in Cardiology (or within 6 months at time of interview) or inclusion on the Specialist Register
- Ability to offer a specialist clinical opinion on the full range of acute cardiac conditions, including emergencies
- Competency in pacing
Desirable- MD or PhD from UK University or equivalent
- Experience in CRM, Experience in electrophysiology
- Completed basic training in management skills
