Job summary
We are looking for a compassionate Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our friendly and supportive Diabetes and Endocrinology ward.

The ward provides care for patients with a wide range of acute and complex medical conditions, alongside specialist care for people living with diabetes and endocrine disorders. This provides an excellent opportunity to develop broad acute medical nursing skills while gaining specialist knowledge and experience in diabetes care.

You will work within an experienced multidisciplinary team to provide safe, effective and individualised care throughout the patient journey, from admission and assessment through to treatment, recovery and discharge.

Previous diabetes experience is not essential. We welcome applications from both experienced and newly qualified nurses who are motivated to learn, develop their clinical skills and contribute positively to our team.

We offer a supportive working environment with induction, preceptorship where appropriate, ongoing education and opportunities to develop specialist knowledge and clinical competence.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate safe, effective and individualised nursing care for patients with a range of acute medical, diabetes and endocrine conditions. Experience of VRII/FRII is advantageous.

You will be responsible for an allocated group of patients, prioritising care according to clinical need and recognising and escalating deterioration appropriately. You will administer medications safely, develop competence in diabetes and insulin management and support patients to understand and participate in the management of their condition.

Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to treatment planning, complex discharge planning and safe and timely patient flow. You will communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues and maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical documentation.

As your experience develops, you will support the coordination of the ward, supervise and support nursing assistants and students, and contribute to the development of less experienced colleagues.

You will maintain high standards of fundamental nursing care, infection prevention, safeguarding, pressure-area care and falls prevention, while actively contributing to clinical governance, quality improvement, audit and learning from incidents and patient feedback.
