Social Worker Level 3 - Wiltshire Career Site Careers

Salary: £42,851 - £44,903 (Inclusive of 7.5% market supplement)

Hours per week: 37 hours

We are looking for a passionate, motivated and experienced Social Worker to join our Mental Health Team. This is a small, well-established, dedicated social care service for people with severe and enduring mental health conditions.

Main duties of the job

The mental health social work teams provide specialist services for adults over 18. The teams support people to recover from periods of difficulty with their mental health and for people to stay as independent as possible by providing support that is person-centred which gives people choice and control in their lives.

As a Mental Health Social Worker, you will also be involved in assessing, coordinating and arranging care for service users with mental health problems, including dementia, both in the community and in hospital.

You will need to be Registered with Social Work England / your appropriate Professional body. Experience of working in a health or social care setting is essential, along with excellent communication skills. You will need to demonstrate passion and enthusiasm for integrated working and an understanding of how we can best engage with our local communities and other partners in a meaningful way.

Job responsibilities
  • To assist/work alongside Approved Mental Health Professionals and provide back up to the AMHP rota and Mental Health Act Assessments. This could involve co-ordinating the personnel (Doctors, Police, ambulance, Relatives) in preparation for the assessment and participation in the risk assessment and management of a mentally disordered service user whose health has deteriorated to the nature and degree that they require assessment and possibly compulsory admission under the Mental Health Act.
  • To undertake the role of Social Supervisor. To maintain contact and liaise with Service Users detained in secure hospital settings with a view to enabling a safe transfer into the community. To undertake social supervision of restricted patients subject to Conditional Discharge under the Mental Health Act 1983 and report to the Home Office (Section 37/41)
  • Rota responsibilities. Supporting AMHPs on rota. Acting as appropriate adult to vulnerable people who are interviewed by Police under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE)
  • Working within a number of legislative frameworks and needing to make important decisions which can impact hugely upon human rights Mental Health Legislation: Mental Capacity Act. The Care Act.
  • Offering specialist advice to health colleagues in Avon and Wiltshire mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.
  • Working in partnership with other agencies to protect the public and individuals Multi agency public protection arrangements, vulnerable adults procedure. Keeping abreast of developments in other related statutory organisations housing, benefit agency, policy, probation, general health, voluntary organisations.
  • Professional supervision and training, to Level 2 social workers and unqualified staff. Give advice and training and internal and external to the organisation e.g. local voluntary organisations (MIND etc.) colleges and so on. Supervising social work students.
  • Assessing the capacity of an individual to manage their own financial affairs Enduring Power of Attorney, Receivership office, Court of Protection
  • Working closely with carers and assessing their needs
  • Maintain registration with Social Work England by completing a portfolio of post registration training, knowledge and so on (Renew every two years)
  • Safeguarding investigations
  • Finding alternatives to compulsory (or voluntary) admission to hospital by creative use of community resources
  • Linking with voluntary organisations who offer groups, drop ins, counselling.
  • Using outreach workers to supplement what families/friends can offer
  • Building periods of respite into the care plan to relieve carers/family, or purchasing a weeks holiday
