Job summary
We are looking for a skilled and compassionate doctor to join our well stablished multi-disciplinary team .

We offer a competitive sessional rate and we are flexible to applicants wanting to work between 3-4 sessions pw on a fixed term until 31st March 2027 with a view to extend it.

Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities:
  • Delivering exceptional healthcare to patients, diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions
  • Collaborating within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure comprehensive, co-ordinated and high quality patient care
  • Participating in clinical meetings, case discussions, and continuous professional development activities
  • Adhering to best practice guidelines, ethical standards and regulatory requirements
  • Contributing to quality improvement initiatives and promoting a culture of excellence
  • Flexibility to provide a mix of telephone and face to face appointments.

About us
We are a friendly and supportive Practice. Well stablished with a team of 5 GPs, 2 practice nurses, Healthcare assistant, phlebotomist, physiotherapist, social prescriber, clinical pharmacist, pharmacist technician, mental health worker, practice manager, admin and reception staff.

Job responsibilities
Clinical responsibilities:
In accordance with the practice rota, the post-holder will undertake a variety of duties, including;
  • face to face consultations, telephone consultations and answering queries
  • visiting patients at home
  • checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries relating to medicines management
  • dealing with paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
  • making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care professionals
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Prescribing in accordance with the local prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
  • In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities within the organisation:
  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines
  • A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
  • Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting
  • Using appropriate templates and protocols to ensure the correct summarising, recording and read coding of patient records
  • Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

In addition to maintaining continued education through attendance at any courses and/or study days necessary to ensure that professional development requirements for your annual appraisal are met, the post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by the practice as part of this employment, with such training to include:
  • Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
  • Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work
  • Ensuring that all statutory and mandatory training is kept up to date as directed by the practice

The post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice, and will:
  • Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk
  • Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions, either directly or under supervision
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the teams performance
  • Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients needs
  • Effectively manage own time, workload and ensure suitable use of resources

Communication:
The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:
  • Communicate effectively with other team members
  • Communicate effectively with patients and carers
  • Recognise peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly
  • Respond to communications internally and externally in a timely manner

Contribution to the implementation of services, the post-holder will:
  • Apply practice policies, standards and guidance
  • Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work
  • Participate in audit where appropriate

Person Specification
Experience
Essential
  • A commitment to primary prevention, and health improvement, and understanding the need for patient empowerment Experience and a commitment of working to standards / guidelines applicable to Primary Care e.g. NICE, prescribing, QoF Understanding and adherence of the need for confidentiality and data protection Acting as a patient advocate and able to assist patients in addressing health inequalities The ability to work collaboratively and effectively across networks providing the best localised care for patients and ensuring suitable use of all available resources A good knowledge of other primary care roles and how these can work in the multi-disciplinary team

Desirable
  • A good understanding of PMS contracting requirements and additional services

Qualifications
Essential
  • MRCGP qualification or equivalent GMC registration and license to practice in the UK Representation with a recognised medical defence organisation Registered on a medical performers list Valid UK driving licence

Desirable
  • Postgraduate training and relevant experience in a clinical specialty
