Job summaryWorcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and forward-thinking Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a specialist interest in Mohs micrographic surgery to join our friendly and experienced team. This substantive post includes an on-call commitment and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, expanding department.
We are looking to complement existing colleagues activity with a full time post with a specialist interest in skin cancer and Mohs surgery to continue to provide a high quality service across the two counties.
Clinical work will include general OMFS conditions and there is scope to develop the role and activities that will complement the forward direction of the department. Opportunities will also exist for interested candidates to in areas including clinical management and leadership, governance and postgraduate education and training. The recent opening on a Medical School in the city of Worcester provides exciting opportunities in undergraduate education

AAC Interview date: 13/11/2026Main duties of the jobThe Oral Maxillofacial Surgery team provide services across Worcestershire at three of our hospital sites including Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Alexandra Hospital, Redditch and Kidderminster Treatment Centre. Working with our partners in Herefordshire via the local Integrated Care Board allows us to deliver care to patients across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
The department works collaboratively with the Ear, Nose and Throat and Dermatology Departments and benefits from their partnership with the Directorate Leadership Team.
The OMFS Department provide a specialist Head and Neck Cancer Services for Herefordshire and Worcestershire with services delivered both locally and in partnership with University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire. Two consultant Head and Neck OMF Surgeons work across the two Trusts to provide a co-ordinated service. The OMFS team are core members of the Trusts multidisciplinary skin cancer service and Local Skin Cancer MDT which offers dedicated skin cancer CNS input and is supported by the regional Specialist Skin Cancer MDT. Contemporary management of dentofacial disproportion is provided by the multidisciplinary orthognathic service with access to virtual planning resources and 3D printing.

Job responsibilitiesThis job description, together with the job plan, will be reviewed annually and agreed with the Clinical Director and Divisional Director, on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer, to ensure that it continually reflects the areas of work, clinical responsibility of the post and purchaser requirements.
- A suitably experienced post-holder will be expected to provide a clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners.
- The post-holder will be expected to provide a service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners and to attend multi-disciplinary meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to work within multi-disciplinary teams in providing high quality clinical care. It is anticipated work will be undertaken on three sites and closer to the patients home. The Trust is seeking to extend services to GP surgeries/health centres etc and job plans may be revised in due course.
- The post-holder will provide support to the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.
- The post-holder will provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care.
Person SpecificationExperienceEssential- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in OMFS.
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
- Expertise in sub-specialty.
Management and Administrative ExperienceEssential- Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
- Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service.
- Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities.
- Ability to manage and lead the specialty firm and multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit.
Desirable- Ability to manage and lead specialist unit and working parties as appropriate.
- Ability to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making.
Teaching ExperienceEssential- Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines.
- Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
Desirable- Ability to supervise postgraduate research.

Desirable- Publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals in the last 5 years.
- Evidence of having undertaken original research.
