Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Band 7 Cardiac Physiologist to join our friendly and dynamic Cardiology team. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled echocardiographer to play a key role in delivering a high-quality, patient-centred diagnostic service.

The successful candidate will independently perform and report a comprehensive range of adult transthoracic echocardiograms to a high professional standard, including complex pathology, in accordance with current professional guidelines and departmental protocols. You will work autonomously, making clinical judgements and communicating significant findings appropriately to the multidisciplinary team to support timely patient management.

You will contribute to the continued development of the echocardiography service. You will also support the education, training of junior physiologists, students, and other healthcare professionals, acting as a clinical role model within the department.

The post holder will work closely with cardiologists, specialist nurses, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of a safe, efficient, and responsive diagnostic service across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Main duties of the job
To independently perform high quality adult TTE, including complex studies, utilising available modalities: including 4D, Strain and Speckle tracking. To assist Cardiologists with complex procedures, including TOE, stress echo, bubble studies and LV contrast studies. To provide clear, accurate and factual reports to clinicians on all investigations undertaken, these will be used for diagnosis and to guide medical / surgical management of the patients condition. Maintain continued professional development, update skills and knowledge and retain BSE accreditation. Engage in training and develop skills and knowledge, in line with the service needs as the department expands and implement new services. Be flexible and adaptable to changes in service needs. Participate in the '7-day week' working rota to meet service needs. To maintain accurate patient records.

To independently perform and report complex adult echocardiograms in line with BSE and departmental guidelines and appropriately escalate findings contributing to timely diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease.

To provide technical support to Cardiologists in specialist services such as Stress Echo and TOE. Training will be provided if necessary.

To provide education, training and development for all aspects of the service to junior members of staff and registrars.

To advise junior medical staff on the availability, selection and appropriateness of test procedures

To practise with a high level of skill and autonomy a range of other cardiac physiology procedures and be expected to perform them if required.

To communicate complex instructions and clinical information effectively to all categories of patients, ensuring co-operation and compliance to obtain accurate technical and clinical data

To visual and verbal risk-assess every patient prior to carrying out any clinical investigations.

To initiate Basic Life Support and Immediate Life Support (ILS) when required

To ensure safe use of specialist / diagnostic equipment used by self and others

To report all untoward events or uncertainties to the Head of Department

To work at all times in a safe and responsible manner

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• Degree in Clinical Physiology or equivalent
• British Society of Echo accreditation or equivalent

Desirable

• ASCST (parts 1 & 2) or equivalent
• ILS certificate
• Registration for RCCP

Experience
Essential

• Significant experience as a Specialised Cardiac Physiologist.
• Highly specialised and advanced knowledge of Echocardiography.

Desirable

• Supervision of staff
• Assist with the day to day running of the department.
• Teaching and development of staff
