Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Scrub Nurse to join the weekend theatre team at James Paget NHS Trust. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and high-quality perioperative care across a range of surgical specialties, supporting theatre efficiency and patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a sterile environment within the operating theatre.
• Assist the surgical team during procedures by anticipating and providing required instruments and materials.
• Ensure all surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are available, checked, and fit for use prior to procedures.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies at all times.
• Account for all instruments, swabs, and sharps before, during, and after procedures.
• Support patient safety throughout the perioperative pathway.
• Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, ODPs, and theatre staff.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with clinical standards.
• Contribute to the effective and efficient running of theatre lists.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant NHS and organisational policies and procedures.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria

• Registered Nurse (NMC registered)
• Proven experience working as a Scrub Nurse in theatre settings
• Experience across relevant surgical specialties
• Strong knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical procedures
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Commitment to delivering high-quality patient care

Desirable Criteria

• Experience working in NHS theatre environments
• Flexibility to adapt to different surgical lists and team dynamics

Pay Rate
PAYE: £360 per weekend shift

Additional Information

• Weekend-only role (Saturday & Sunday shifts)
• No travel or accommodation allowance provided
• Accommodation may be available at £30 per night
• Compliance requirements include documentation, ID verification, and mandatory e-learning completion
