Role OverviewWe are seeking a skilled and experienced
Scrub Nurse to join the weekend theatre team at James Paget NHS Trust. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and high-quality perioperative care across a range of surgical specialties, supporting theatre efficiency and patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and maintain a sterile environment within the operating theatre.
- Assist the surgical team during procedures by anticipating and providing required instruments and materials.
- Ensure all surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are available, checked, and fit for use prior to procedures.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control policies at all times.
- Account for all instruments, swabs, and sharps before, during, and after procedures.
- Support patient safety throughout the perioperative pathway.
- Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists, ODPs, and theatre staff.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with clinical standards.
- Contribute to the effective and efficient running of theatre lists.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant NHS and organisational policies and procedures.

Person SpecificationEssential Criteria- Registered Nurse (NMC registered)
- Proven experience working as a Scrub Nurse in theatre settings
- Experience across relevant surgical specialties
- Strong knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical procedures
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to delivering high-quality patient care
Desirable Criteria- Experience working in NHS theatre environments
- Flexibility to adapt to different surgical lists and team dynamics
Pay RatePAYE: £360 per weekend shift
Additional Information- Weekend-only role (Saturday & Sunday shifts)
- No travel or accommodation allowance provided
- Accommodation may be available at £30 per night
- Compliance requirements include documentation, ID verification, and mandatory e-learning completion
