Job summaryWe currently have an opportunity for a sonographer with excellent obstetric and gynaecology skills to join our department. This post would suit someone who is interested in expanding their scope of practice within our friendly team.
Applications are welcome from registered sonographers with a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Medical Ultrasound.
Ashford & St Peters NHS Trust Maternity & Gynaecology is based across two sites with the main department situated at St. Peters Hospital KT16 0PZ and a smaller one at Ashford Hospital, TW15 3AA.
There are eight ultrasound rooms in total across both sites, all of which have E8/E10 GE machines. A range of obstetric examinations from early pregnancy to term are performed, including maternal and fetal Doppler studies, together with 3D TV gynaecology scans - training can be provided for these techniques. We independently report and triage all our obstetric and gynaecological examinations. CPD is actively encouraged and supported.

We are a friendly multidisciplinary team with three obstetric consultants who specialise in fetal medicine, maternal medicine and multiple pregnancies and are fully committed to the continuing development of our dynamic department. We also have close ties with our tertiary referral centre at St. Georges Hospital.
Main duties of the job- To perform and independently report on a range of diagnostic ultrasound maternity and gynaecology examinations in line with departmental guidelines, in order to provide a quality ultrasound scanning and reporting service for Ashford and St Peters NHS Trust.
- To maintain established clinical standards, particularly in respect to patient care, clinical risk and Health and Safety.
- To liaise effectively with other departments and health care professionals as necessary.
- To participate in auditing, reporting, presentation and administration of the ultrasound service as required.
- To participate in the practical and theoretical training of student practitioners.
- To understand the implications of the Health and Safety at Work Act, and ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff according to the Trusts Health and Safety Policy.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- BSc Diagnostic Radiography (or equivalent)
- PG Diploma or Certificate in Medical Ultrasound
- Current HCPC, NMC or RCT Registration.
- Evidence of CPD
Desirable- DQASS and FMF affiliated.
- Undertaking clinical study at Masters level or a relevant management course
ExperienceEssential- Specialist professional knowledge acquired from the essential training and further post graduate study.
- Experience in counselling and breaking bad news in highly emotional circumstances and referral of patients to tertiary centres as appropriate.
- Familiar with radiology IT systems
- General administrative duties within an ultrasound environment
- Good working knowledge and competence in all aspects of obstetrics and gynaecology scanning and related procedures.
- You have knowledge & awareness of diversity and human rights and the competencies appropriate to your role to support their diverse needs and human rights.
Desirable- Ability to be flexible to meet the needs of the team, the service and the Trust
