You will become part of a well-established multidisciplinary team, working alongside experienced consultants, specialist nurses and dedicated support staff in a modern surgical environment. Recent investment in our facilities includes expanded theatre capacity with a ninth operating theatre, a dedicated Surgical Same Day Emergency Care unit and the introduction of robotic surgery, with plans for further expansion across specialties.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be accountable to the Supervising Consultants and the Clinical Lead for Surgery.

The successful applicant will have a job plan based on 10 sessions to include 1 Admin session and 1 SPA. Clinical activity will be based on the General Surgery team timetable but some flexibility will be required to meet service needs within the Specialty. The postholder will work within clinics, theatres and endoscopy and will have access to training and development opportunities, including endoscopy and laparoscopic surgery.

The post holder will also be required to:

• Be actively involved in daily ward rounds, MDTs and the teaching and supervision of students and junior doctors
• Keep legible and detailed records as may be required
• Communicate fully with patients, relatives, family doctors and other health and social service colleagues, (within the over-riding boundaries of confidentiality and respecting patient wishes)
• Participate in audit, Clinical Governance and educational sessions within the department
• Take part in the 1 in 9 middle grade on-call rota (potential change to 1 in 10)
• Deputise for absent colleagues, within reason
• Perform additional duties in relation to occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances
• Be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care

• A minimum of four years surgical training (ideally 2 years basic surgical training and 2 years in your surgical specialty)
