An exciting opportunity has arisen for two enthusiastic and motivated doctors to join the Obstetrics & Gynaecology team at Barts Health NHS Trust as Clinical Fellows. These posts are initially offered for a period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension. We welcome applications from candidates available to commence as soon as possible.
Based at Newham University Hospital, these posts provide an excellent opportunity for senior trainees and qualified specialists to further develop their clinical expertise within a supportive and dynamic department.
Although these are non-training posts, fellows will gain extensive experience across the full range of obstetric and gynaecological services, including specialist clinics, theatres, and multidisciplinary care pathways. The department has a strong educational ethos, and successful candidates will be encouraged to participate fully in teaching, research, clinical audit, quality improvement projects, and journal clubs.
Main duties of the job- Independently assess, diagnose and manage obstetric and gynaecological patients within agreed competencies.
- Provide senior clinical decision-making during elective and emergency clinical activity.
- Lead the management of acute obstetric and gynaecological presentations during on-call periods.
- Participate in antenatal, postnatal, labour ward, emergency gynaecology, ambulatory gynaecology and inpatient ward care.
- Undertake outpatient clinics and theatre sessions.
- Perform obstetric and gynaecological procedures appropriate to registrar level.
- Independently perform caesarean sections, instrumental deliveries, manual removal of placenta and surgical management of miscarriage.
- Ensure timely escalation of complex or high-risk cases to consultant colleagues.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical documentation.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Full GMC registration with license to practice
- MRCOG Part 2 or equivalent
Desirable- MRCOG Part 3 or equivalent. Evidence of fetal monitoring training
- Evidence of MDT training including PROMPT or ALSO
ExperienceEssential- Experience working within Obstetrics and Gynecology at registrar level within the NH
- Experience managing acute obstetric and gynecological presentations
Desirable- Experience working within large, diverse and high-volume maternity units
- Experience in a specialist area of Obstetrics or Gynecology
KnowledgeEssential- Broad knowledge of Obstetrics and Gynecology
